Anya Taylor-Joy, who stars as the mutant Illyana Rasputin/Magik in the The New Mutants, offered her take on the tone of the upcoming horror-centric X-Men spinoff film.

In a newly-surfaced interview from 2017, Taylor-Joy spoke highly of the tone of the film, which has since been met with numerous delays following Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox. "I think this is unlike any tone I've seen before on film in the sense that you've got a lot of things playing where, of course, we're superheroes, but [director Josh Boone] is treating us very much like people," she told Digital Spy.

The actor went on to mention that the film offers a coming-of-age story coupled with dark tones. "It's very unique," she said.

The younger sister of longtime X-Men member, Colossus, the character of Magik made her first appearance in Giant-Size X-Men #1, which was first released by Marvel Comics 1975. While technically not a founding member of the New Mutants, she was one of the young superhero teams earliest recruits and has been a part of some of their most pivotal and iconic stories. The film adaptation marks the first time Magik has appeared in live-action.
