Doom Patrol star Brendan Fraser revealed his feelings on returning to The Mummy franchise.

The actor was asked at FAN EXPO Canada if there were any plans for a revival of the popular The Mummy franchise. After feigning ignorance about the failed 2017 Tom Cruise-led reboot of the same name, Fraser told the crowd he’d “absolutely” be willing to return to the role.

“Just gotta say, I know how hard it is to make that movie,” Fraser added. “I tried to do it three times, and the essential ingredient is fun. You gotta remember to have fun. So if there’s a fun way to approach it again, I’m all in.”

Fraser's role as Rick O'Connell 1999’s The Mummy turned the actor into an action star, and the series became a multimedia franchise, spawning animated series and theme park rides. Fraser reprised the role for two sequels, 2001's The Mummy Returns and 2008's The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. The series also had a spin-off film: The Scorpion King, which was one of the earliest roles in the film career of Dwayne Johnson.

The franchise was quietly retired when Universal Pictures opted to instead reboot its horror lines and focus on the Dark Universe, the future of which seems bleak following the poor reception of 2017’s The Mummy.

There's nothing official about a Mummy revival at this time, and it's unclear if Universal would pursue such a project. Fraser is currently working on the second season of the DC Universe original series Doom Patrol, and Rachel Weisz -- who also starred in The Mummy series -- is set to co-star in 2020’s Black Widow solo feature.
