WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for The Mosquito Coast Season 1, Episodes 3, "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere," which aired Friday on Apple TV+.

After having to abandon their car due to a shootout with militia last week, the Foxes and Chuy have had to go through the desert on foot with a dwindling water supply in The Mosquito Coast Season 1, Episode 3, "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere." Along with the natural dangers and the U.S. government in pursuit of the family, Chuy is furious with Allie because there are people in Mexico who want him dead, but Allie insists he come with them, especially since they need his connections and cell phone. Thanks to the amount of cash the Foxes have on hand, as well as the limited options for Chuy, he reluctantly agrees, but he warns the family they will die if they follow Allie across the border.

As they make their way through the desert, they quickly deplete their water supply, so Allie proposes they take a short cut through a bombing range, which causes his daughter, Dina, to worry; however, Allie insists that the military only uses six percent of the range so they should be fine. This isn't necessarily the case, as a helicopter flies overhead. It does not bomb the family, but since they're wanted, the Foxes can't afford to be seen, so they take shelter in an abandoned building with a dead body, which Allie steals water off of.

Things don't get any easier for the family, as distrust about Allie grows. Chuy has been upfront with Dina and Margot about how he thinks he's dangerous while also trying to figure what exactly he is wanted for. Dina, who already expressed frustrations with her dad in Episodes 1 and 2, is also questioning her father's past to her mother. Along with this, Chuy opens up to Margot about how he has a daughter in Mexico, who he hasn't seen since she was little, but this was because he owed people money. During this conversation, he promises to make the call, which will hopefully save Allie, but he still encourages Margot to take the kids and leave for their safety.

They should've listened to Chuy because Allie wants to take another dangerous shortcut, despite Chuy's advice. While going through this shortcut, they discover a graveyard full of exposed corpses. It's been around since Chuy was a child, and he pays his respects to the dead, telling the family it's rude and unlucky to bury the bodies or steal for them, but that doesn't stop Allie, Margot and Charlie, with the youngest child taking a gun off a corpse.

Right before they make it out of the graveyard, a group of migrants pass through, so they hide just in case. In hiding, a snake attacks Charlie, but Chuy grabs it before it can bite the kid, getting bitten himself. The bite will not kill him, according to Margot, but it will make him sick, and if they do not get him help in time, he will die from dehydration.

Allie still needs Chuy, so the push on, giving him the rest of their water in hopes of making it to a beacon that Allie can hijack for a cell phone signal. They almost don't make it, with Chuy collapsing right when the beacon comes into view. Allie has proven he's a brilliant inventor before, and he does it again, successfully finding a signal and helping Chuy make a call to a migrant way station. The people there are initially hesitant to help Chuy, as he shouldn't return to Mexico and they do not go north of the border; however, after hearing that the Foxes are Americans looking to disappear, Chuy's friends agree to help.

They can't meet at the beacon, and Chuy passes out after the call, so the family creates a stretcher and carry him to church ruins to meet Chuy's connections. Thankfully, they are there with two trucks, and they invite the family into the cars to rehydrate and get out of the desert. Meanwhile, Marco tends to Chuy's wounds. From this point, the Foxes and an unconscious Chuy part ways, with Allie, Dina, Charlie and Margot going to somewhere unknown at the time of this writing.

Starring Justin Theroux, Melissa George, Logan Polish and Gabriel Bateman, The Mosquito Coast airs Fridays on Apple TV+.
