Warning: This article contains spoilers for The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers Season 1, Episode 7, "Pond Hockey," now streaming on Disney+.

Despite Evan turning down the opportunity to rejoin the Ducks after practicing with his old team in the last episode, his team found out he considered abandoning them and are subsequently upset with him. They start the latest episode of The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, titled "Pond Hockey," discussing their feelings of betrayal. Sam and Sofi take the betrayal especially hard.

Evan and Alex show up to practice and Alex tries to ease Evan's anxiety about the Don't Bothers still being angry with him. Alex is pleasantly surprised that the team is in fact at the rink for practice at all, but she is less happy though to discover that the players are also upset with her through her association with Evan. Alex says they have a "team problem" and therefore calls a players only team meeting. Alex's plan is to lock the team into a locker room and not let them leave until they solve their issues.

In the dressing room, Evan tries to justify his flirtation with returning to the Ducks and he begs for his teammates to forgive him. His teammates are not easily won over, though. They give Evan a hard time about trying out for other teams, and point out that he is supposed to be their captain and that his betrayal was not captain behavior.

Alex is listening at the door of the dressing room when Bombay shows up, wondering where everyone is as he has been taking his role as assistant coach seriously. Alex is concerned about her plan for a players only meeting, but Bombay encourages her despite the fact that behind the locked door the Don't Bothers are turning on each other and airing out their issues beyond their feelings of betrayal by Evan.

Bombay tells Alex not to break up the meeting and to trust her coaching instincts, despite what her mom instincts are telling her to do. Then Bombay walks away and leaves her alone listening at the door where the players have lined up across each other to fight about their issues. But Alex can't resist and she goes into the room to try and help when the power suddenly goes out.

Bombay tries to fix the fuse box as Alex doubts herself and her coaching ability. Bombay says not to cancel practice, he has somewhere else they can go. He takes the team, who are at odds, to an outdoor pond and calls it "Nature's Ice Palace." Alex is concerned about safety and Bombay tells her to trust him because he learned how to skate on that very pond. He then gives them a speech about how pond hockey teaches kids passion and will give them a tactical edge. He then invites them just to walk out onto the ice and feel it beneath their feet.

Bombay starts a game of tag with Evan being the first one "it" and the team starts to laugh and play, but Sam is still reluctant to join in. Then they gear up and have a proper practice to hone their skills, led by Bombay. Bombay even trades out his old egg-passing drill from The Mighty Ducks for a new passing drill, using the kids' cell phones to teach them not only soft hands, but to protect each other.

Even after a great practice, the team is still mad at Evan, so he rips off the captain C from his jersey and says he won't wear it until he earns it back. The gesture and understanding of his mistake allows for the team to forgive him. Then Sofi inspires them not to pick a new captain, but instead encourage them all to be equal in leadership and status.

After their healing and successful practice, the team goes out for pizza. Sofi does her homework while the rest of the team has fun, and when Evan tries to engage with her, she shows that she's still mad at him because she thought they were better friends -- she was not only hurt by his actions as a teammate, but as a friend too.

The next practice out on the pond, neither Alex nor Sam are in attendance. Bombay starts practice with goaltender Koob and points out that his weakness is in his slow feet, despite his good hand reflexes. He then has Koob skate around and lies about the ice cracking beneath his feet. In his desperation to avoid falling through the ice, Koob learns that he's faster than he realized, which allows him to become a more well-rounded goaltender.

Alex is at the office where she bumps into Stephanie. Alex says she's not going to practice and Stephanie thinks it's because the Don't Bothers are quitting, but Alex explains that it's because Bombay is stepping up as coach, so she's stepping back. Stephanie points out that Bombay does have a tendency to bring out the best in underdogs, but Alex was their coach first. Alex tries to explain that she isn't a real coach, but Stephanie encourages Alex to face her fears, get out of her comfort zone and go to the practice.

Alex brings blindfolds to practice and encourages the team to use their instincts. The team ends up tripping over themselves, so Alex loses her confidence and leaves practice. At the end of practice, Sam texts that he is quitting the team because he doesn't feel like being crazy anymore and feels that that means there's no place for him on the team.

Koob, Evan and Nick meet Sam at the rink as he cleans out his locker. Evan asks why Sam took his betrayal so much harder than everyone else. Sam explains that he had never had a team before, so when Evan reached out and offered him support and a team, it affected him greatly, making Evan's betrayal especially painful. Evan restates how important Sam is to the team -- the special "X-Factor" of the Don't Bothers -- which helps Sam get back to his regular self and encourages him not to quit.

Before their next game, Evan talks to Sofi and apologizes for being a bad friend to her. He admits that he doesn't think she's like everyone else; she's special. He gets her a gift of a knee compression sleeve and she forgives him. Up in the stands, Bombay asks Alex why she isn't behind the bench. She explains that she thinks he should be the team coach instead because he is the one with the real coaching instincts. Bombay admits that he cut the power to the Ice Palace to reset the groove of the team. He then explains that Alex is the one who brought him back into the world of hockey by pushing him. He tells her that that is what makes her a natural coach, which gives her the confidence to get back behind the bench.

The Don't Bothers are in top form for the game. As they're tied near the end, Alex calls a timeout and draws out a play with the intention of winning, saying that while they could run out the clock and hold onto the tie, she believes they can do better than that. For the play, the Don't Bothers close their eyes, which throws off the other team as the Don't Bothers make perfect, blind passes to set up the game-winning goal. The Don't Bothers celebrate their win and Alex fully embraces her role as the team coach.
