Based on Christopher Pike's 1994 novel of the same name, The Midnight Club is set to follow a group of seven terminally ill young adults, all residing in the ominous Rotterdam House. This hospice, run by an enigmatic doctor portrayed by scream queen and horror icon Heather Langenkamp, will host its residents' rounds of sharing scary stories late at night. When one of the eponymous club's members finally succumbs to their illness, the pact they made that the first to pass would go on to haunt the living becomes far more real than any of them ever expected.

Langenkamp, whose career began as a film extra on the set of Francis Ford Coppola's The Outsiders in 1983, became a household name after appearing as Nancy Thompson in 1984's A Nightmare on Elm Street. Langenkamp would reprise the role of Nancy for 1987's A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors. She also starred as a fictionalized version of herself for 1994's Wes Craven's New Nightmare, which saw slasher great Freddy Krueger make his way off the silver screen and into the real world. Langenkamp's appearance in The Midnight Club marks her return to live-action, episodic horror anthologies.

Flanagan's adaptation of The Midnight Club was announced in May 2020. The Haunting of Hill House and Haunting of Bly Manor showrunner said it was a "dream come true" and an "honor to introduce a new generation of young horror fans to the world of Christopher Pike." Pike's other works, including the Chain Letter series, catapulted the author to the heights of young adult horror fiction alongside other icons of the genre such as R.L. Stein. Pike fans have previously speculated that concepts from his other works will make their way into The Midnight Club as part of the anthology series' stories.

The Midnight Club premieres on Netflix Oct. 7.
