The Matrix was a game-changer in the world of film, pushing the boundaries of visual effects and spawning an entire franchise. Now, director Lana Wachowski is returning to the world she helped create with The Matrix 4 and one actor would like to return for it.

During an interview on CinemaBlend's ReelBlend podcast, franchise veteran Joe Pantoliano expressed his interest in appearing in The Matrix 4.  He said, "Yeah I’d be interested." Pantoliano elaborated, saying, "I doubt they’re going to be bringing me back. I’ve lobbied for it, believe me. I’ve sent little notes to Lana and asked her, to no response."

Pantoliano portrayed Cypher, one of Morpheus (Lawrence Fishburne)'s crew in the original Matrix. Disillusioned with the fight for freedom, Cypher struck a deal with Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving) in order to turn over Morpheus so that he could return to the virtual reality of the Matrix. Cypher was eventually killed by Tank (Marcus Chong.)

The Matrix 4 will see Keanu Reeves and Carrie Anne Moss returning as Neo and Trinity, with Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother), Priyanka Chopra Jones (Baywatch), and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman, Candyman) in yet to be disclosed roles. Production on the film has halted due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.
