Sense8 star Eréndira Ibarra, who played Daniel Velázquez on the Netflix series, will join Lana Wachowski's The Matrix 4.

The news comes from Deadline, which did not reveal any additional information about Ibarra's role in Matrix 4. In addition to Sense8, on which Lana Wachowski also worked, Ibarra is known for her roles on such shows as Las Aparicio and Ingobernable.

Officially confirmed to be in active development in August after years of rumors and speculation, the fourth Matrix is expected to begin principal photography in early 2020. Operating under the working title Project Ice Cream, little is known about the plot of The Matrix 4 at this time. However, original series star Keanu Reeves confirmed he'd seen the script, calling it "very ambitious."

The first Matrix film released in 1999 to much critical acclaim. It was followed by two sequels, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, both of which were released in 2003. Worldwide, the franchise's films have grossed over $1.5 billion.

Directed by Lana Wachowski, The Matrix 4 stars Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jada Pinkett Smith, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Jessica Henwick and Jonathan Groff. The film arrives May 21, 2021.
