The Mask was one of Jim Carrey's biggest roles of the 1990s, and he's now revealed the one condition that would need to be met for him to return to for a sequel.

"I don't think in terms of sequels and stuff like that, I mean, this one [Sonic The Hedgehog] is kind of right for it because we have not evolved the character [Dr. Eggman] fully yet," Carrey, who is starring in Sonic the Hedgehog as Dr. Ivo Robotnik/Dr, Eggman, told ComicBook.com. "The Mask I think, myself, you know, it would depend on a filmmaker. It depends on a filmmaker really. I don't want to do it just to do it. But I would only do it if it was some crazy visionary filmmaker. Sure."

Directed by Chuck Russell, The Mask is based on Doug Mahnke and John Arcudi's Dark Horse comic book series of the same name. Carrey played Stanley Ipkiss/The Mask in the movie, while Cameron Diaz played Tina Carlyle. The film earned $351 million against a budget of $23 million and was nominated for several awards. In addition to an animated series, The Mask had a 2005 sequel called Son of the Mask, which performed poorly with critics and at the box office.

Helmed by Jeff Fowler, Sonic the Hedgehog stars Ben Schwartz voicing Sonic the Hedgehog and Jim Carrey as Sonic’s nemesis Doctor Robotnik. The film costars James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Neal McDonough and Adam Pally. The film is set for release on Feb. 14.
