Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, many side characters introduced in previous movies got a spotlight that allowed them to start a path toward becoming more prominent characters. That was best shown with Monica Rambeau, who previously appeared as a child in Captain Marvel. Since then, the qualities of Carol Danvers and her mother, Maria, have been showcased as she's pushed herself higher, further and faster. In doing so, it also led her to encounter the likes of Nick Fury and Wanda Maximoff, with the latter being her most important interaction as she tried to help Wanda dispel her hex over Westview. Throughout that time, audiences also saw that while she had noble qualities, she also had a dangerous tendency that reared its ugly head again in the trailer for The Marvels.

In The Marvels trailer, Monica was working with Nick Fury in a new organization called S.A.B.E.R., which will protect Earth from space-born threats. At this point, Monica had already gained abilities following WandaVision, which has made her an invaluable asset to the organization. However, it also made her braver than she already was, which led her to touch the energy of a Jump Point that forced her, Carol and Kamala Khan to switch places. But just those few moments of the trailer showed that Monica still hadn't learned from what happened to her in Westview.

Monica Rambeau Has a Tendency To Be Reckless

In WandaVision, Wanda's hex around Westview was made of a particular type of background radiation that altered reality within it. However, it also changed those that had traveled through it. That happened with Monica as she went through the hex three times. The first time was due solely to her persistence, which got her sucked in, and she got caught under Wanda's spell for some time. However, when she came to her senses, she tried to help Wanda but was forced out. Knowing that Wanda needed help, she pushed herself through the hex, allowing her to see various types of light radiation and altering the molecular state of her body to match said energy. Though these powers are impressive, there's no denying they were born from her recklessness when it came to doing the right thing.

The Marvels continued this trend of reckless behavior as, when she approached the Jump Point to get a sample for Nick Fury, she did so by ignoring Fury's orders to stand down. The same thing happened when she entered Westview as Agent Jimmy Woo told her to step away from the hex for her safety. It's a persistence that could be incredibly problematic for Monica in the future as it could put her in a level of danger she may not see right away. That said, it's also a telling sign of the type of person, hero and strategic master she is.

Monica Rambeau's Persistence Says a Lot About Her Character

Like Carol, Monica won't let anyone tell her the risks and keep her from exploring her curiosity. That behavior granted her abilities and has put her on a path to work with Nick Fury. That said, there's also a tragedy to her persistence and recklessness. Before she became a superhero, Monica was still trying to help where she could, working with S.W.O.R.D. But following her mother's death and the fact that she missed it in The Blip changed her. Since then, she's acted more daring -- almost as if to keep her mother's thirst for discovery alive through her. But on top of that, it's also fed into her natural curiosity because when she was a child, she looked up to Carol for doing the same.

Though there's a degree of danger in Monica's behavior, she acts as such because she knows there's no price too high for discovery, a similar belief to what both Carol and Maria had. But she's also taken calculated risks as she was never afraid to put herself in danger but would never put others at risk. But where those inspirations did so for the sake of discovery, Monica was sculpted because of the events of The Blip. Because it affected her personally, her persistence and recklessness came from a relentless desire to protect the planet. Everything she does isn't for herself but to protect those who can't protect themselves. As a result, while Monica's behavior breeds danger, it comes from an honest place that could ultimately benefit the greater good.

The Marvels hits theaters on Nov. 2023.
