"Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence," reads the synopsis. "But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destablized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel and Carol's estranged niece Captain Monica Rambeau. While specific plot details remain scarce, many Marvel Cinematic Universe fans have already caught a glimpse of The Marvels. The post-credits scene of Ms. Marvel saw young Kamala Khan seemingly warped from her bedroom to an unknown destination, trading places with Carol Danvers. Upon realizing that she's back on Earth, the powerful Avenger panicks and attempts to flee as fast as possible. It's currently unknown how this particular event fits into The Marvels but many fans have taken to be an inciting incident.

The Marvels Learn to Communicate

As for how the team of cosmic warriors will operate, audiences can expect some clashing when they first unite. Despite this, Ms. Marvel star Iman Vellani revealed that while her young superhero character is initially disappointed, she learns to overcome that negativity. "I think she has certain expectations about what this teamwork should look like, you know, from the comics and all these stories that she hears about the Avengers," Vellani said. "So, it's not exactly what she dreamed it was gonna be, so I think Kamala's kind of the glue of the group and holds these guys together."

As for the original Captain Marvel, actor Brie Larson revealed that The Marvels will be focusing on some aspects of the character that were too dark to include in an origin story. "Now, it’s digging into some more of the complexities, that there’s much more to her than that," Larson said. "There are parts that are not so great about her, that we can see a hero is not being the person that makes every right decision all the time."

The Marvels flies into theaters on July 28, 2023.
