The first teaser trailer for The Marvels features Oscar winner Brie Larson wearing Carol Danvers' latest comics-inspired Captain Marvel costume.
The video gave viewers a brief glimpse of the new Captain Marvel costume, which now bears a giant gold star emblem in the center. Like Larson's previous Captain Marvel suit, this latest iteration still sports the cosmic hero's signature red and blue colors in a much darker tone. The upgraded suit also seemingly pays homage to the original costume of Mar-Vell. In 2019's blockbuster Captain Marvel movie, a reimagined version of Mar-Vell was played by Annette Bening.
Candyman filmmaker Nia DaCosta directed The Marvels. It will feature the return of Larson's Carol Danvers/ Captain Marvel to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after making back-to-back cameos in Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings and on the Ms. Marvel series. In a previous interview, DaCosta praised Larson's performance in the upcoming superhero movie, teasing an emotional scene where the Room actor got to show off her acting skills.
In addition to Larson, the film leads include WandaVision's Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan/ Ms. Marvel. They are joined by MCU newcomers Zawe Ashton as a Kree villain and Park Seo-joon, who is rumored to play Carol Danvers' alien husband Prince Yan. The teaser trailer also confirmed Samuel L. Jackson's return as Nick Fury, who will first appear on the Disney+ miniseries Secret Invasion which premieres on June 21.
The Marvels Teams Up Carol, Monica and Kamala
Apart from giving fans a first look at the action and Monica and Kamala's new costumes, Marvel released a new synopsis for the upcoming film. It reads, "Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol's estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as 'The Marvels.'"
The Marvels is scheduled to arrive in theaters on Nov. 10 as part of the MCU's Phase Five.
