After launching last year, Star Wars: The Mandalorian quickly became a pop culture, due in no small part to its great pieces and deep dive into the galaxy far, far away's lore. Anticipating the show's success, Disney quickly renewed the series, making clear The Mandalorian wasn't going away anytime soon.

With the follow-up set to release this year, here's everything we know about the story, cast, crew and release of The Mandalorian Season 2 so far.

The Story So Far

The Mandalorian initially follows Din Djarin, who is more commonly referred to as Mando, on a mission from the Client -- who works with the remnants of the Galactic Empire -- to retrieve a "package." However, this turns out to be a child of the same unknown alien species as Yoda. When Mando realizes the Client intends to kill and experiment on the Child (sometimes referred to as Baby Yoda), he frees him and goes on the run. The next few episodes then follow Mando and the Child's adventures throughout the galaxy, where they meet a variety of characters who end up helping them at the end of the season.

The plot comes to a head in the season's last two episodes. After Bounty Hunters' Guild agent Greef Karga decides to help Mando after the Child cures his wounds, the two work with former Alliance shock trooper Cara Dune, bounty hunter droid IG-11 and Ugnaught vapor farmer Kuiil to betray the Client and get him off their backs once and for all. That all quickly unravels, though, when the mysterious Moff Gideon arrives and kills the Client. Meanwhile, a pair of Stormtroopers kill Kuiil and take the Child.

In a reversal, though, the finale begins with IG-11 saving the Child and revealing Mando's backstory. After his family was killed by the Empire, Djarin was taken in by the Mandalorians, who taught them their way of life. Din is injured in the battle with Gideon, though IG-11 patches him up. The team then learns the Stormtrooopers have killed Mando's clan, except for The Armorer. She gives Mando his goal for Season 2: Return the Child to where it belongs.

IG-11 sacrifices itself so the team can get away from the Empire's forces, but they are stopped by Moff Gideon in his Tie Fighter. Mando brings the ship down, and he's able to get away with the Child. However, just before the season ends, Moff Gideon carves himself out of the wreckage with the Darksaber -- an ancient weapon passed down by the Mandalorians.

What To Expect & Trailers

At this time, there hasn't been an official synopsis released for The Mandalorian Season 2. However, the show is likely to follow Mando in his search for the Child's homeworld. Gideon actor Giancarlo Esposito has also teased some sort of lightsaber fight, though details on that are scarce at this time.

The first trailer for The Mandalorian Season 2 was released in September and teased a variety of things Din Djarin will encounter on his quest to bring The Child to the Jedi.
