WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 2, Episode 5, "Chapter 13: The Jedi," streaming now on Disney+.

In the latest episode of The Mandalorian, "The Jedi," Ahsoka Tano gave Grogu a way to communicate, and the Child had plenty to share. Though it was heartwarming to see Grogu reclaim his identity, he also held bleak memories of surviving Order 66. Palpatine's plan to eradicate the Jedi included all of the padawans, no matter how young, and poor Grogu was among them at the Temple on Coruscant. However, he reveals to Ahsoka that he was taken safely from the creche by someone. Many fans have jumped at the idea of Mace Windu or Yoda being the one who saved Grogu, but it's possible that the mysterious figure is the Jedi's chief librarian, Jocasta Nu.

Jocasta first entered canon with a live-action appearance in Attack of the Clones. A small but key figure in Obi-Wan Kenobi's quest, her faith in the integrity of the archives of the Jedi takes a hit when Kenobi discovers that the planet Kamino has been erased from the records. Less than a year later, The Clone Wars shows that her domain was assaulted by Cad Bane and his crew of mercenaries. They steal a holocron that contains a list of Force-sensitive children from around the galaxy, leaving the future of the Jedi Order at risk.

A copy of that same holocron becomes a key part of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and Jocasta's fate is quietly entwined with much of that lore. Though she's only referenced in the game, Jocasta's efforts to protect not only the children on that list but recover what she can from the Jedi purge becomes a bigger part of Darth Vader's story. In the "Legacy's End" event from the Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith comic by Charles Soule and Giuseppe Camuncoli, the Sith Lord goes on the hunt for the escaped librarian who survived Order 66.

The comic highlights Jocasta as a surprising force to be reckoned with. A stately old woman who trained as a Jedi Consular, one who focuses on diplomacy instead of warfare, she still handled a lightsaber well enough to fend off attackers. As a telekinetic with some mastery of the usual mind tricks, she fought to recover the legacy of the Jedi until Darth Vader himself cornered her, leaving her goal of building a new Jedi school left incomplete with one slice of his lightsaber. Her apprentice, Gar, stood watch over a secret cache of recovered Jedi artifacts, and "Legacy's End" ends with the things that the librarian died for finally reaching the hands of Luke Skywalker.

With Jocasta established as a survivor of Order 66, it's worth a closer look at her in connection with Grogu. The Mandalorian makes it clear that Grogu's origins remain a mystery. Jocasta, however, as a member of the High Council as well as its librarian, would have known Master Yoda better than most. If anyone knew of Yoda's homeworld and the peculiarities of his species, it would have been her.

Star Wars Jocasta Nu

With the quiet but firm temperament required for her studious role, she might have been quite comfortable with the arrival of a Jedi youngling with a powerfully internal mind. It's also compelling that Jocasta's Force-mastery was telekinetic, similar to Grogu. Ahsoka explains that the child has already had teachers, and Jocasta, with her orderly mind, would have been a perfect introduction to the Force.

Jocasta is someone that would have known the worth and rarity of every artifact she encountered. With lives on the line and no time to spare, it's implied by her appearances so far that she grabbed up what she could and fled the Temple. Grogu, with his Force-sensitive mind, rare lineage and tiny form would have been the easiest child to rescue.

Between the attempted recovery of the holocron and the safety of what little she could rescue, it's worth considering that Jocasta's specific goal was establishing a new school, not just securing a new archive. That's an easier goal to tackle if she knew for certain she had a student waiting out there for her. While Grogu likely won't want to look back on the memories of the horrific day Darth Sidious began to wipe out the entire Jedi order, it's fair to assume that Jocasta was involved in some way.
