The Star Wars franchise has always had one of the most distinctive logos of any franchise. The fanfare that accompanies it has remained consistent across multiple series of films, giving the entire franchise a unifying bridge before the start of any adventure.
THE NEW INTRO
As always, the Lucasfilm logo appears before anything else. But then, a soft light, alternating blue and red, shifts back and forth. These lights seem to represent the blue and red lightsabers common in the franchise. Blue has gone on to be short-hand for the heroic Jedi, and red stands for the nefarious Sith. Each time it changes, the picture shifts to a different member of the overarching Star Wars narrative, jumping between different times and settings within the continuity of the universe.
The first image is of perhaps the single most iconic character from the entire series, the Sith Lord Darth Vader. The pictures change though, to snapshots of various other characters. Next, are a number of major droids who have assisted in the battles against the Dark Side (namely R2-D2, C-3PO and BB-8). They are illuminated with a soft blue light. The red light next illuminates Kylo Ren's helmet from when it first appeared in The Force Awakens. The red light also extends over what appears to be the Empire equivalent of a protocol droid
A Rebel pilot and a First Order stormtrooper can be seen with the next blue flash. Meanwhile, one final red flash illuminates the helmet of the Mandalorian. It's interesting that these particular colors are used with the Stromtrooper and the Mandalorian. Especially considering the Mandalorian's gray morality, this may suggest he ends up fighting closer to the Dark Side by the end of his journey.
Also of note is that there are almost no direct shots of humans, with the exception of the nondescript Rebel Pilot whose face is largely covered by his flight helmet. There is no Luke or Rey in these shots, but instead the more design-heavy characters who don't require a single specific actor to play them.
Created by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Carl Weathers, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog and Nick Nolte. The first episode is streaming now on Disney+.
