The rumored runtime marks a new milestone for the Star Wars series, as its brief Season 3 premiere lasted 35 minutes, the shortest episode of any other live-action Star Wars project. On March 1, The Mandalorian debuted its Season 3 premiere, "Chapter 17: The Apostate," on Disney+. With the exception of 2022's The Book of Boba Fett, the last time fans saw the dynamic duo of Grogu and Mando was in December 2020 during The Mandalorian Season 2 finale. That episode kept viewers on the edge of their seats with the appearance of Luke Skywalker as the season's cliffhanger.

While The Mandalorian has only aired two episodes of Season 3, showrunner Jon Favreau has already finished writing Season 4. "We have to know where we're going to tell a fully-formed story, so we had mapped it out, [executive producer] Dave [Filoni] and I, and then slowly you just right each episode," Favreau said. "So I was writing it during post-production [on The Mandalorian Season 3] because all of it has to feel like a continuation, one full story."

More Star Wars on Disney+

As to what viewers can expect throughout Season 3, lead actor Pedro Pascal previously teased a bigger Mandalorian presence and the possibility of several large-scale battles. In addition to Din Djarin's involvement, Disney+ has revealed adorable moments featuring his adopted child, Grogu.

While The Mandalorian continues to receive additional installments, other Disney+ shows await confirmation on further seasons, including The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Actor Ewan McGregor previously expressed interest in a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi. "In the old days, I would joke about, 'There must be a good story to tell between Episode III and VI.' But it's true. I always felt that there was," the actor said. In the limited series, McGregor reunited with Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace star Liam Neeson for Obi-Wan Kenobi's final episode.

The Mandalorian Season 3 is currently streaming on Disney+, with new episodes dropping Wednesdays.
