Star Wars fans were ecstatic to finally witness the highly anticipated debut of the legendary Mythosaur in Season 3 of the critically acclaimed Disney+ series The Mandalorian.

Fans flocked to social media to discuss a specific scene from The Mandalorian Season 3, Episode 2, "The Mines of Mandalore," which gave audiences their first look at a living Mythosaur. Many viewers expressed their excitement over Din Djarin and Bo Katan's encounter with the legendary creature, while others jokingly claimed the Mythosaur was likely confused after it was awoken from its millennium-long hibernation. Some fans further speculated that the Mythosaur's awakening was linked to Din Djarin's arrival and that the bounty hunter might even one day ride its back as ancient Mandalorians once did.

What is a Mythosaur?

Mythosaurs were legendary creatures of massive size that resided on the Outer Rim of the Mandalorian homeworld, Mandalore, where ancient Mandalorians tamed and used them as mounts. While the legendary beasts reportedly went extinct sometime before the Mandalorian cataclysm, it remains unclear what might have caused them to disappear in the Star Wars canon. Despite their extinction, Mandalorian culture placed great significance on the Mythosaur, with a depiction of the creature's skull still used as an important traditional emblem by some Mandalorians in the era of the New Republic.

The gigantic creatures were previously mentioned in The Mandalorian's spinoff series The Book of Boba Fett Episode 5, "The Return of the Mandalorian," wherein the Armorer recalled traditional Mandalorian folk songs that mentioned the legendary creature. The Armorer additionally revealed these songs prophesized a new age for Mandalore, which would allegedly be heralded by the return of the Mythosaurs.

Grogu's Force Training

Director Dave Filoni also previously discussed how fan-favorite Grogu might develop his powers after he parted ways with Luke Skywalker, with Filoni stating Grogu's proficiency in the Force was entirely dependent on the foundling's self-discipline. "But it's the focus, the training, the dedication that makes all the difference because we all have the Force in us," Filoni explained. "We're all connected to it. The difference is you and I aren't training right now. And that's very difficult to do, as Qui-Gon mentions -- it's not an easy life -- when he talks to little Anakin about it. So, you know, he has abilities, and he's obviously talented, and it's really up to him what he's gonna do with it going forward."
