After a short series of adventures showing off Baby Yoda and the stoic Din Djarin, Season 1 of Disney+'s The Mandalorian ended with a climactic battle against Moff Gideon, played by Giancarlo Esposito. Despite crashing his TIE fighter into the desert, Gideon was shown to have survived, meaning the Child and Mando aren't free of him just yet.

Esposito talked a little bit about the role at a Television Critics Association panel for Season 5 of Better Call Saul. When asked if he would play a larger role in Season 2 of The Mandalorian, the actor said, "It's growing... Yes, I do. I most certainly do."

While confirmation of any details is welcome, this should come as no surprise to audiences after the surprise ending of the Season 1 finale, "Redemption" (directed by Taika Waititi), which showed Gideon climb from the wreckage of his ship and reveal a Darksaber-- not just a weapon, but an important Mandalorian artifact. This all but guaranteed that Gideon will serve as Mando's nemesis in the upcoming season, despite his late introduction in the series.

Details regarding Season 2 are scarce, but the series has entered production and is scheduled for release later this year.

Created by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Carl Weathers, Giancarlo Esposito and Emily Swallow. Season 1 is streaming now on Disney+. Season 2 is slated to arrive fall 2020.
