The return of Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian's Season 2 finale was a massive surprise to several fans. Among those fans was fellow cast member Ming-Na Wen (Fennec Shand). "The pleasure was all mine," Hamill also wrote. Wen responded to his message, saying she had reached "nerd nirvana" and that it topped bumping into Aerosmith's Steven Tyler.

Hamill reprised his role as Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian's Season 2 finale, "The Rescue." Skywalker came to Din Djarin and his companions' aid, answering the call of the Force-sensitive child Grogu. Skywalker then offered to help train Grogu in the use of his abilities. Hamill previously thanked series creator Jon Favreau and writer/director/executive producer Dave Filoni for the "unexpected gift" they gave him.

Wen first appeared in Season 1 of The Mandalorian, and played a large role in the second half of Season 2. She will reprise her role in the Star Wars animated series The Bad Batch, as well as The Book of Boba Fett.
