WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 2, Episode 8, "Chapter 16: The Rescue," streaming now on Disney+.

Following the release of Star Wars: The Mandalorian's Season 2 finale, Mark Hamill celebrated his character's surprise cameo.

"The fact that we were able to keep my involvement a secret for over a year with no leaks is nothing less than a miracle," Hamill tweeted.

"A real triumph for spoiler-haters everywhere!" He added, using the hashtags #LooseLipsSinkStarships and #STFU.

The Mandalorian's Season 2 finale, "Chapter 16: The Rescue," featured the appearance of a lightsaber-wielding hooded Jedi Knight, who piloted an X-Wing onto Moff Gideon's ship and saved the Mandalorian and his teammates. After battling a fleet of stormtroopers, the Jedi Knight removed his hood to reveal himself as Hamill's Luke Skywalker, looking -- thanks to CGI -- like he did in 1983's Return of the Jedi. Luke then took Grogu from Din to complete The Child's force-training. The finale ended with Din agreeing to part ways with Grogu and removing his helmet in order to have an emotional goodbye.

The Mandalorian's Season 2 finale also featured a post-credits scene, previewing a clip from Disney+'s upcoming series, The Book of Boba Fett, which will premiere in December 2021. It's unclear at this time whether the Boba Fett television series will air before or at the same time as Season 3 of The Mandalorian, as the latter is also expected to debut in December 2021. It's also been suggested -- and possibly hinted at by actor Pedro Pascal -- that The Book of Boba Fett is a part of The Mandalorian's Season 3, and will serve as a season-long interlude.

News of the Boba Fett spinoff came days after Disney's 2020 Investor Day event, which announced several live-action shows coming to the Star Wars Universe, including an Ahsoka Tano spinoff and Rangers of the New Republic. According to Star Wars head Kathleen Kennedy, both shows exist in the same time period as The Mandalorian. Although no casting details for Rangers of the New Republic has been announced yet, Rosario Dawson will reprise her titular role in Ahsoka.

Created by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, with guest stars Bill Burr, Gina Carano, Ming-Na Wen, Temuera Morrison and Giancarlo Esposito.
