The Mandalorian star Giancarlo Esposito recently promised that the Disney+ series will peel back Moff Gideon's icy facade at some point during its third season.

Esposito teased that Season 3 will showcase a softer side of his character during D23 Expo 2022, reports Discussing Film. "You haven't seen Moff [Gideon] be vulnerable before... Only you can supply yourself with the patience to find out what comes next," he said. Esposito first portrayed Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian Season 1, Episode 7, "Chapter 7: The Reckoning," and played a larger role in the season finale, "Chapter 8: Redemption." He then served as the main villain in The Mandalorian Season 2, with his efforts to capture Grogu pitting him against the Force-sensitive child's protector Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal).

Esposito was notably absent from The Mandalorian spinoff The Book of Boba Fett, however, Moff Gideon is still referenced in that series. The star has since made it clear that he is indeed eager to take part in Star Wars projects aside from The Mandalorian, and would happily play Moff Gideon in a video game. Esposito went on to say that its his understanding that video game writer Navid Khavari is currently working on an unannounced Star Wars project, which he intends to lobby for a part in. "I know very little about [the game] but I'm about to call [Khavari]," Esposito said. "I'm about to call him and say, 'Yo, what's up?'"

The Mandalorian Season 3 Trailer Drops at D23 Expo 2022

Esposito was also nowhere to be seen in The Mandalorian Season 3 trailer that dropped at D23 Expo 2022, even though Moff Gideon is officially confirmed to return for the show's third season. The trailer spotlights plenty of other familiar faces, though, including Din Djarin, Grogu and their long-time allies Greef Karga (Carl Weathers) and Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff). Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker's Babu Frik is also prominently featured, as well as Din Djarin's heavily-modified N-1 starfighter first seen in The Book of Boba Fett.

Sackhoff praised The Mandalorian Season 3's scope and breakneck pace during a pre-panel interview on the D23 red carpet, saying both will leave fans more than satisfied. "It is a very grand season and there are a lot of moving parts this year and it is fast," she said. "I think the fans are going to absolutely love it and they're going to be blown away."

The Mandalorian Seasons 1 and 2 are currently streaming on Disney+. Season 3 arrives in February 2023.
