While little is known about Disney+'s upcoming Star Wars series The Mandalorian, actor Giancarlo Esposito has offered some insight into the mysterious character he plays.

"In a way, you might call him an underworld character," Esposito said at a Television Critics Association panel. "You may also look at him as a savior, as someone who might bring back some order to the world after it’s all collapsed."

Esposito also noted that his scenes were shot in "The Volume," which is how the Na'vi and Pandora were created for 2009's Avatar. That being said, Giancarlo's character may not be humanoid in nature.

"It could suggest that,” he added. "We are working in The Volume. It’s a very specific atmosphere and quite fascinating to work in. I don’t want to spoil anything for you but that does suggest I might have a different persona. Who knows?"

Created by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Carl Weathers, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog and Nick Nolte. The series debuts Nov. 12 on Disney+.
