Season 1 of Disney+'s The Mandalorian was steeped in mystery, and one of the show's stars says there are some answers coming -- just not in the upcoming season.

"We’re living in a universe that is huge and there’s so much to explore," said Giancarlo Esposito, who plays Moff Gideon in the series. "So I think this show is going to lay the groundwork for the depth and breadth that’s going to come in Season 3 and Season 4, where you’re really going to start to get answers."

The series has posed no shortage of questions. Season 1 first introduced the main protagonist -- played by Pedro Pascal -- early on, but the character's name went unspoken and his face unseen until the finale. Some background has been shared about his ally, mercenary Cara Dune, but her story has yet to be fully explored. And the biggest mystery of all -- the character known as The Child, but more commonly referred to as Baby Yoda -- has hardly been touched.

Esposito made his debut in the first season's penultimate episode, with his character Moff Gideon in pursuit of The Mandalorian and his allies, seeking to kidnap The Child. The heroes escaped and Gideon's TIE Fighter crashed, seemingly putting an end to the character, at least momentarily, until Gideon freed himself from the wreckage with a Darksaber. The Darksaber, of course, was the unique weapon seen in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and how and why Gideon came into possession of one is yet another mystery.

Created by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Carl Weathers, Giancarlo Esposito, Taika Waititi and Emily Swallow. Season 1 is available now on Disney+, with Season 2 premiering Oct. 30.
