WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Star Wars: The Mandalorian, Season 2, Episode 2, "Chapter Ten: The Passenger," available now on Disney+.

Prior to the premiere of The Mandalorian Season 2, there was a whole lot of speculation involving the identity of the unknown ice planet glimpsed in the season's trailers. Din Djarin and the Child eventually made their way to the world in "Chapter 10: The Passenger," but the episode seemed to come and go without actually revealing where they were -- that is, unless you know how to translate Aurebesh, the written language of the Star Wars universe.

A user on the Star Wars Leaks subreddit posted a screenshot from "Chapter 10: The Passenger" that shows a display screen on Din's spaceship, the Razor Crest, identifying the mysterious ice planet as Maldo Kreis in Aurebesh. According to the user, the shot appears around 31 minutes and 31 seconds into the episode.

If that name rings a bell, it's probably because Maldo Kreis is the same planet that Din traveled to in the series premiere of The Mandalorian. The episode, titled "Chapter 1: The Mandalorian," follows Din to the world as he hunts down a Mythrol with a bounty on their head. It's a key scene that establishes just how deadly and efficient Din is, as he successfully locates and captures the Mythrol at a bar, after readily disposing of a bunch of onlooking trawlers who were harassing them.

In "Chapter 10: The Passenger," Din, the Child and their passenger -- a character referred to as Frog Lady -- inadvertently crash-land on Maldo Kreis while attempting to flee a pair of New Republic X-Wing pilots, who had identified Din as the bounty hunter involved in breaking out the prisoner Qin in the Season 1 episode "Chapter 6: The Prisoner." Much like how Din and the Razor Crest were attacked by a Ravinak while taking off on Maldo Kreis in the series premiere, "Chapter 10: The Passenger" pits Din and his companions against another one of the planet's giant monsters: the Krykna, a creature previously featured on Star Wars RebelsAs he did before, Din manages to make it off the planet with his crew alive, though only after sustaining heavy damage to his ship and getting an assist from the X-Wing pilots in destroying the Krykna and its babies.

Although it might seem like a giant coincidence that Din would accidentally find his way back to a planet he's visited fairly recently, it's far from implausible. After all, Din tends to travel in the same region of the galaxy over and over to avoid being detected by the New Republic. If he were to crash his ship, it would probably end up being on a familiar orb. Not to mention, Din was unable to travel to hyperspace in "Chapter 10: The Passenger" due to Frog Lady's eggs, which were too fragile to be transported that way. This also explains why he would travel so close to a place like Maldo Kreis to reduce his chances of encountering pirates, despite knowing from personal experience just how dangerous the planet can be.

The Mandalorian: The Passenger

No doubt, some fans will be disappointed to learn the ice planet in "Chapter 10: The Passenger" is Maldo Kreis and not something like Ilum, years before the world is converted into the Starkiller Base, the First Order's superweapon in The Force Awakens. However, that arguably would've required a greater leap in suspension of disbelief, and might've come across as a forced attempt to link the events of The Mandalorian and the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy closer together. Since the whole idea behind The Mandalorian is to tell a smaller story set in the equivalent of the wild west of the Star Wars universe, it's better for the show to avoid making unnecessary big connections as much as possible.

As for the other rumored possibility about the ice planet -- that it was Krownest, the snowy homeworld of Clan Wren and Rebels' Sabine Wren -- The Mandalorian may yet visit that world in the future. But before it does, Din has some additional detective work to do so to figure out where all the other Mandalorians are and how they can help him reunite the Child with the Jedi.

Created by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, with guest stars Gina Carano, Carl Weathers and Giancarlo Esposito. Directors for the new season include Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa, Carl Weathers, Peyton Reed and Robert Rodriguez.
