The following contains spoilers for The Mandalorian Season 3, streaming now on Disney+.

Disney originally wanted to pay The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal as a voice actor, according to a new report.

The report comes via Making Star Wars, an outlet with a proven track record of breaking accurate Star Wars news stories. It claims that Disney tried to offer Pascal a voice actor's salary ahead of The Mandalorian Season 1. This was due to Pascal's limited amount of actual screentime, as his character, Din Djarin, was often brought to life by body doubles Brendan Wayne, Lateef Crowder and Barry Lowin. Pascal pushed back on being paid the lower voice actor's rate and ultimately received a standard salary after a scene was added to the Season 1 finale in which Djarin's unmasked face is seen for the first time. It's worth noting that neither Disney nor Lucasfilm has publicly commented on the report, which means its contents should be taken with a grain of salt for now (despite the reliability of its source).

Pascal has since shown his face a further two times during The Mandalorian's three-season run, despite Din Djarin's vow never to remove his helmet in front of others. This vow serves as the driving narrative force of The Mandalorian Season 3's early episodes, which see Djarin embark on a quest to redeem himself in the eyes of his clan. Not all the Disney+ show's Mandalorians adhere to the same traditions, though. Notably, Djarin's ally Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) regularly removes her own headgear -- and without falling foul of helmet hair.

The Mandalorian Star Talks AI Actors

Bo-Katan's seemingly impervious tresses are no doubt just one of many traits that make her a fan-favorite character, and few Star Wars fans could imagine anyone other than Sackhoff in the role. Sackhoff touched on this in a recent interview, confirming she would be open to Bo-Katan's voice outliving her through the use of AI-powered technology. "I mean, if my family reaps the benefit of that? Yeah, of course," she said. "I think we're into a really, really tricky place with AI. It's scary to me in some regard and others, you know, for a fandom to continue to have new content after someone is gone is pretty amazing."

Before Sackhoff or her possible AI proxy can reprise the Bo-Katan role, the Mandalorian warrior will first need to survive The Mandalorian Season 3's upcoming eighth and final episode. The show's cast and crew remain tight-lipped regarding the finale, although executive producer Dave Filoni recently teased that the ending of The Mandalorian Season 3 would leave audiences"[with] a lot to think about."
