WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 2, Episode 8, "Chapter 16: The Rescue," streaming now on Disney+.

Season 2 of The Mandalorian pays off a lot of teases that were set up earlier in the series. The finale is all about Din Djarin and his allies infiltrating an Imperial cruiser to rescue Grogu from Moff Gideon. Previously, Gideon deployed a fleet of Dark Troopers to kidnap Grogu and bring him aboard in order to continue the experiments using the Force user's blood. Now, in this episode, the Dark Troopers return, this time to do battle, and they end up sharing the same general vitality as a Terminator.

The Dark Troopers are a droid unit under the command of Moff Gideon on his Imperial cruiser. Din and his allies know that they will be the biggest obstacle in their attempt to rescue Grogu, so they formulate a plan which would eject the troopers from the cruiser before they are fully engaged. The idea is that the team will need to eliminate the troopers before they are battle-ready because the group of advanced fighters would stand no chance against them.

Terminators are similarly formidable. In Terminator, Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese are unable to defeat their robot opponent in combat, and the only way it's destroyed is when it's repeatedly crushed by other, bigger machines. An army of Terminators is virtually unstoppable, so much so that it is actually easier for humanity to utilize time travel and send an agent back in time to stop the apocalypse all together than put resources to stopping them in the modern-day.

The Dark Troopers and Terminators also share a weakness. The Dark Troopers are vulnerable to attack in the neck and joints, while the Terminator's mechanical structure is modeled after a human, which causes weakness in the areas that would cause issues for a regular person. Just like Terminators, Dark Troopers are also vulnerable to melting temperatures, leaving them to be defeated by a Jedi in the form of Luke Skywalker.

Terminator 2 Judgement Day

Both Terminators and Dark Troopers were created as a replacement for humanity. Skynet believes that their humanoid killing machines are superior to humanity, while the Dark Troopers came into existence created because it's believed that the failures of the stormtroopers are derived explicitly from their humanity.

While both groups are invulnerable killing machines, they are designed to replace humanity in combat and remove emotion and independent thought from missions. That fact makes it more important when they are ultimately defeated by the good guys. In the end, they are formidable foes that pose a serious threat but are ultimately unable to defeat humans and their humanity.

Created by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Carl Weathers and Giancarlo Esposito. Seasons 1 and 2 are streaming now on Disney+.
