WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Star Wars: The Mandalorian, Season 2, available now on Disney+.

The Mandalorian is providing some great fan-service to the Star Wars Universe, with amazing callbacks to things like Rebels, not to mention that epic return of Boba Fett on Tatooine. The series is bridging the gap nicely as fans get insight into what happened in the wake of Return of the Jedi after the Empire fell.

However, as The Mandalorian continues to connect dots and stitch together a dangerous tapestry for Din Djarin to navigate with the Child, it really needs to consider bringing back The Force Awakens' most mysterious character: Maz Kanata.

Maz Kanata with luke's lightsaber

In J.J. Abrams' movie, Maz was introduced as a Force-sensitive humanoid female who, as the "pirate queen," harbored criminals and smugglers at her castle on Takodana. It's at this location that Rey met her and was introduced to Luke Skywalker's lightsaber, which was lost after The Empire Strikes Back.

However, in the subsequent films, Maz didn't get that much screen-time as a Resistance member. She continued fighting against the First Order, but only appeared in brief cameos, which had little impact on the story. So, since she's such an important character, with so much knowledge and unknown history, The Mandalorian is the perfect place for her to get more of a spotlight.

Five years after the fall of the Empire, the First Order has yet to fully form, so there's enough time for Din and her to cross paths, especially since they both run in seedy circles. Seeing as he's seeking out other Mandalorians and the Child's people, Maz is ideal to help him on this mission. She's lived for a thousand years and knows so much about the Force, not to mention she is one of Leia's closest confidantes. Her addition would be much more than just adding a big name, as Maz really fits the narrative, potentially acting as that guru Din needs to help him on his heroic journey.

Maz can educate him on the Force and on what the Child's birthright is. She knows a lot about Yoda and was actually initially designed to be another mentor-like figure belonging to his species. She could help Din learn a lot about the new war to come as well, and seeing as the bounty hunter loves running side-missions and bartering for info, a team-up would be perfect. In Star Wars #4, readers saw an Ugnaught finding Luke's lightsaber, a weapon Maz somehow gets her hands on. With her now in the world of The Mandalorian, Din could acquire the weapon for her in exchange for intel, connecting the show directly to the events of the Sequel Trilogy.

To put it simply, The Mandalorian adding Maz to its cast would properly position this underused character as someone of great importance in a galaxy far, far away, while also being a creative way to incorporate the Force into the Child's story.
