In the adrenaline-fueled world of urban exploration, it’s not uncommon to run up against harrowing situations involving dead ends or an unexpected visit from the police, but Zack Kaplan and Alvaro Sarraseca’s The Lost City Explorers #4 sees the return of another kind of threat -- ghosts. A four-page preview of the upcoming issue reveals one of the guardians of lost City of Atlantis, and it seems none too pleased about the group’s trespasses.

While this is the first time the series’ protagonist, Hel, has come in contact with such a creature, it’s not the first time such a ghostly form has appeared. Lost City Explorers readers will likely recall that a similar creature caused the first batch of Atlantean explorers to flee, resulting in the presumed death of Hel’s father. The creature was also seen in the final panel of Issue #3, looming large over the intrepid explorers.

Now, while it would appear as though Hel and her crew have found a way to combat the apparition, the solution is not a permanent one. With the gateway to the lost city seemingly in reach, the group will have to find a way past the creature or risk being lost themselves.

The Lost City Explorers #4 is written by Zack Kaplan. Art for the issue is provided by Alvaro Sarraseca. Dee Cunniffe is the issue’s colorist. A Larger World’s Troy Peteri is the letterer. Rafael De Latorre drew the cover with the help of Marcelo Maiolo.

The Lost City Explorers #4 goes on sale on Sept. 19. A four-page preview of the issue, along with the cover, can be found below.
