Warner Bros. is developing a film reboot of Joel Schumacher's fan-favorite 1987 vampire movie The Lost Boys.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, this "reimagined" take on The Lost Boys has found its lead actors in Noah Jupe and Jaeden Martell. Jupe is known for his role as Marcus Abbott in the 2018 horror film A Quiet Place and its 2021 sequel A Quiet Place Part II. Martell, meanwhile, is perhaps best known for playing classic Stephen King character Bill Denbrough in 2017's It and 2019's It: Chapter Two.

Warner Bros. Pictures' new Lost Boys film is set to be written by Randy McKinnon and directed by Jonathan Entwislte. McKinnon, of course, co-wrote the 2020 Disney+ original film Safety and was recently tapped to pen the script for Warner Bros. and DC's planned Static Shock movie. Meanwhile, Entwislte is known for serving as co-creator and director of the Netflix original series I Am Not Okay with This, which starred Martell's It co-star Sophia Lillis.

Beyond the fact that it is said to take place in the modern day, plot details for the Lost Boys reboot are currently being kept under wraps. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Fred Berger will serve as producers on the film through their Automatik production company. Additionally, Zac Frognowski and Josh Glick will executive produce.

Schumacher's The Lost Boys follows brothers Michael and Sam Emerson, who travel with their newly-divorced mother, Lucy, to live with her father in Santa Carla, California. Upon their arrival, the brothers soon discover that the beach town is being terrorized by a vampire biker gang. Before long, at the local comic book store, Sam meets the Frog brothers, who fancy themselves to be vampire hunters.

Schumacher's original 1987 film was followed by two sequels, director P.J. Pesce's Lost Boys: The Tribe and director Dario Piana's Lost Boys: The Thirst, which released in 2008 and 2010, respectively. The CW was recently working on a television reboot of The Lost Boys, which had a tumultuous development process. Though a reworked pilot was officially ordered in early 2020 and multiple key roles were cast, The CW's Lost Boys TV show does not appear to be moving forward at this time, giving way to Warner's planned film reboot.
