There have been a number of teen hero groups that have popped up over the years, though none were quite like the superhero support group that originally debuted as Excelsior in Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona's The Runaways before Marvel gave the team an official name and spin-off series with C.B. Cebulski and Karl Moline's The Loners.

The group was formed to give former heroes and sidekicks a place to get help and discuss their lives after the costume. They managed to get caught up in costumed antics as The Loners membership grew, but the team fell apart shortly after it formed as the heroes either moved further into retirement or rejoined the superhero life. So where are The Loners now?

9 Rick Jones

Rick Jones as the Abomination in Immortal Hulk

Rick Jones was one of Marvel's first teen heroes. He palled around with the Hulk after Bruce Banner was hit by the gamma bomb that transformed him in an effort to save Rick Jones from exposure. Rick Jones wasn't an official member of the support group, but he secretly provided resources and a mission to hunt down the Runaways.

Jones was then transformed into the powerful A-Bomb and became a member of the Hulk family before he was depowered and later killed during Secret Empire by Hydra Cap. However, he was brought back to life as the latest Abomination in the pages of Immortal Hulk, where he has continued to live a waking nightmare in Al Ewing and Joe Bennett's breakout horror series.

8 Michiko Musashi/Turbo

The Loners Turbo

"Mickey" Musashi/Turbo first appeared in Fabian Nicieza and Darick Robertson's New Warriors wearing the Torpedo armor that appeared in the 70s and 80s, though she was unaware of the suit's origins initially. Turbo was originally Mickey and her friend Mike, but when the alien Dire Wraiths returned to claim the armor, Mike was killed and Mickey was traumatized.

Mickey retired as Turbo and moved to L.A. where she first launched the Excelsior support group alongside Phil Urich to help others try to stay away from the costumed life that cost her friend's life. Turbo briefly returned when The Loners joined with Avengers Academy, but she would eventually restart The Loners support group in New York after she retired from the costume again.

7 Phil Urich/Green Goblin

Phil Urich's Green Goblin and Hobgoblin identities.

Mickey worked alongside Phil Urich at the Los Angeles Times when they first came up with the idea for Excelsior, and he was one of the leaders of the group following his brief stint as the only heroic Green Goblin who debuted during the Clone Saga. Unfortunately, Phil's addiction to power caused him to turn on the group and violently attack them before he returned to New York.

When Phil found an abandoned Goblin cache and resorted to murder to steal the contents, he began his road to villainy as the new Hobgoblin and began to make a name for himself. He was then drafted into Norman Osborn's Goblin Nation as the Goblin Knight and then later became the Goblin King before he was violently killed by Osborn in his Red Goblin form.

6 Julie Power/Lightspeed

Lightspeed flying through the air

Power Pack first introduced Julie Power and her siblings as they gained fantastic alien abilities and began to work alongside the heroes of the Marvel universe as a team of children that briefly included Franklin Richards. Julie retired from superheroics and struggled to live a normal life as an actress in L.A. without using her powers, which first led her to The Loners.

Lightspeed joined the Avengers Academy with other members of the Loners where she began a relationship with the Runaways' Karolina Dean. After they broke up, Julie joined her older brother Alex in Jeremy Whitley and Will Robson's Future Foundation.

5 Johnny Gallo/Ricochet

The Loners Ricochet

The Ricochet costumed identity was originally created by Peter Parker during the "Identity Crisis" storyline where he was forced to clear Spider-Man's name using four different masked costumes that were later abandoned. Johnny Gallo used his mutant agility and danger-sense to become the new Ricochet alongside the Slingers, though they suffered tragedy immediately.

Gallo moved to L.A. where he joined The Loners to deal with his guilt over the death of his teammate, though he would follow the support group when they joined the Avengers Academy and then reformed in New York. Ricochet would later return in Peter David and André Lima Araújo's Ben Reilly: Scarlet Spider as he reunited with the Slingers to uncover the truth of their origins.

4 Geoffrey Wilder/"Chamber"

The Loners Chamber The Runaways Geofrrey Wilder

When Excelsior first formed in the pages of The Runaways, they included the former Generation X member Jono Starsmore/Chamber as one of the support group's members, but it was eventually revealed that he was a mole for The Pride, villainous parents of the Runaways.

A teenaged Wilder had been pulled from the past to join the New Pride, and he used a magical disguise to infiltrate Excelsior to learn more about the Runaways. Once he was revealed in Excelsior, he attacked the Runaways, who erased his memory and sent him back in time to avoid any changes to the timeline. The real Chamber appears with the New Mutants on Krakoa.

3 Namie/Red Ronin & Hollow

The Loners Namie and Hollow

The Loners continued to go on missions after their experience with the Runaways, which often brought on new members to the team as the support group attempted to help other powered youth that led to the discovery of a few hidden experiments. Namie was created by Fujikawa Industries as a continuation of the Red Ronin robotic project that was designed to fight Marvel's Godzilla.

Namie was amnesiac and had little understanding of her powers and she remained with the support group when they reformed in New York. The former Gen-X member Hollow shares the same Penance form as Monet St. Croix/M and was discovered in an MGH-production plant, but her story was left unresolved when the series was canceled and Hollow hasn't reappeared.

2 Mattie Franklin/Spider-Woman

Mattie Franklin death

Martha "Mattie" Franklin first gained her abilities during the Gathering of Five before she became the new Spider-Woman, but her powers continued to evolve as she struggled to find success as a costumed hero. Mattie traveled to L.A. and joined the support group, though it was eventually revealed she was trying to find information about the Slingers from Ricochet.

After the support group disbanded, Mattie returned to New York where she was hunted down and sacrificed by the Kravinoff family during Spider-Man's "Grim Hunt" storyline. Mattie was then brought back as a clone during the "Dead No More" storyline where she sacrificed herself to save her uncle J. Jonah Jameson and new friend Cindy Moon/Silk.

1 Chris Powell/Darkhawk

Marvel Darkhawk

When Chris Powell first found the strange amulet that transformed him into Darkhawk, he joined a few teams like the New Warriors and the West Coast Avengers before he began to experience control issues with his alien armor. Phil Urich attempted to steal Powell's amulet, resulting in a fight that led to the dissolution of the support group.

Powell became the superpowered security chief at Project Pegasus before he encountered Talon, who revealed Darkhawk's true origins with the Fraternity of Raptors. Powell was later captured and forced to battle in Arcade's Avengers Arena before Darkhawk was given another cosmic overhaul to become an important player in events like War of Kings and Infinity Countdown.
