'The Leviathan' Lands Simon Kinberg and Neill Blomkamp

Ruairi Robinson's red-hot proof-of-concept trailer for "The Leviathan" has done more than rack up views online, it's reeled a couple of influential producers.

Deadline reports "X-Men's" Simon Kinberg beat out several other big-name producers for the futuristic "Moby Dick"-inspired tale, in which faster-than-light travel is made possible through the harvest of material from the eggs "of the largest species mankind has ever seen." Neill Blomkamp ("District 9," "Chappie") will serve as executive producer.

The website notes that Kinberg's first-look deal with Fox gives "The Leviathan" potential backing, but even if the studio were to pass Robinson would have no shortage of others ready to step in.

Mankind has colonized many worlds in a time when travel faster than the speed of light has been made possible by the harvesting of exotic matter from the eggs of the largest species mankind has ever seen. Those who take part in the hunt for the matter are mostly involuntary labor.
