Developer Naughty Dog has released more information regarding the story of the highly anticipated video game The Last of Us Part II.
For those looking forward to the The Last of Us Part II's story, an official synopsis and more details were revealed for the upcoming PS4 exclusive. Naughty Dog promises intense action-survival gameplay, a detailed and dangerous world to explore, and an emotionally-driven story.
The synopsis reads,
Five years after their dangerous journey across the post-pandemic United States, Ellie and Joel have settled down in Jackson, Wyoming. Living amongst a thriving community of survivors has allowed them peace and stability, despite the constant threat of the infected and other, more desperate survivors. When a violent event disrupts that peace, Ellie embarks on a relentless journey to carry out justice and find closure. As she hunts those responsible one by one, she is confronted with the devastating physical and emotional repercussions of her actions.
From the synopsis, it seems as if The Last of Us Part II is going to have players question the fine line of morality and whether it's worth crossing over that line in its complex story. Ellie will travel through various terrains and settlements under the drive of revenge, coming across "new survivor groups, unfamiliar and treacherous environments, and terrifying evolutions of the infected."
The Last of Us Part II is also said to have more a realistic and detailed world and characters to compliment the brutal survival gameplay. "Feel her desperate struggle for survival through improved features such as high-intensity melee combat, fluid movement, and dynamic stealth."
Players will also be able to craft items, acquire skills, and use numerous weapons to cater to their play style as they embark on Ellie's journey.
During Sony's State of Play live stream on Tuesday, a new trailer for The Last of Us Part II was showcased. Players got a glimpse of the main campaign, the infected enemies called Clickers, and even the first game's male protagonist Joel. More information and gameplay was said to be revealed on Outbreak Day, known to Naughty Dog as September 26th, which happens to be the day the cordyceps fungus hit critical mass in the story of the The Last of Us.
Developed by Naughty Dog, The Last of Us Part II will release exclusively on PlayStation 4 on Feb. 21, 2020.
