The fantasy epic “The Giant Under the Snow” is the next major children’s book adaptation in the works for the big screen.
Variety reports that Michael Caton-Jones (“The Jackal,” “Doc Hollywood”) has signed on to helm the film, based on John Gordon’s 1968 children’s novel of the same name. The director is working with Tom Williams (“Chalet Girl”) on the script now.
Set to begin shooting in October for a Christmas 2016 release, the project will be mostly live action with some CG elements.
That’s a very apt release date, as the book focuses on three kids who find a mystical Celtic buckle on Christmas that wakes a sleeping behemoth. The children must return the artifact before an evil warlord and his Leathermen get their evil mitts on the object.
