The Invisible Man Remake Goes Blockbuster With David Goyer

The Invisible Man is working its way to the big screen once again, although it will probably bear little resemblance to either the 1933 film starring Claude Rains or the 1897 H.G. Wells novel on which the movie was based. David Goyer is developing a new take on the tale that he will write and direct, one that he tells the Los Angeles Times he’ll be going big for.

“It’s a period film but it’s period like [Robert Downey Jr.’s] Sherlock Holmes,” he said, comparing his own efforts to the 2009 action-adventure directed by Guy Ritchie. “It’s period but it’s a reinvention of the character in the sort of way that Stephen Sommers exploded The Mummy into a much bigger kind of mythology. That’s kind of what we’ve done with The Invisible Man.”

Goyer didn’t offer any further details on his plans, though he did say that the project is “still alive” and in the casting phase, following Universal’s positive response to some of his pre-vis tests.
