The Incredibles' Parr children may appear to have been raised as superheroes in, but they may actually be on the path to become supervillains. The kids exhibit disturbing behavior throughout both movies that may point to villainous tendencies, and a Reddit theory further expounds on this, pointing to the idea that Dash, Violet and Jack-Jack Parr may actually be psychopaths.

Redditor u/EquivalentInflation provides multiple examples from both Incredibles films demonstrates the Parr children's psychopathic tendencies. The Pixar movies follow their parents Bob and Helen Parr, known as Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl, struggling to adjust to life as retired superheroes. Part of life in retirement involves trying to raise their children — superpowered Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack — in a normal suburban environment.

Incredibles family ready to fight The Underminer

Eventually, the Parr family is thrown back into the superhero life, and the kids are introduced to it through baptism by fire. The Reddit theory originates from a question wondering what would realistically happen to children given immense powers at a young age and being forced to fight bad guys. The answer is nothing good.

The theory goes through each Parr kid and provides specific examples of disturbing behavior. The most concerning of the kids is Dash, who has super-speed. He's introduced to the audience after taking advantage of his speed to torment a teacher. Later in the film, he and his sister take down an entire horde of bad guys with basically no training. In The Incredibles 2, Dash attempts to use his dad's remote control to fire off the missiles from Bob's car into a group of people. The boy appears to take joy in every example of violence.

According to the Reddit theory, Violet and Jack-Jack's behavior is less straightforward. Jack-Jack may just be a baby in The Incredibles, but he still does some pretty horrifying things, such as terrorizing his babysitter and tormenting an animal. He performs each of these actions with utter glee. Though he's very young and may not have complete control over his actions, the audience is meant to understand that he is a highly intelligent child, meaning he's likely at least somewhat aware of what he's doing.

Unlike her brothers, the eldest Parr sibling Violet doesn't to take any joy any violence, but that's the thing — she doesn't take joy in much of anything. Violet is shy and withdrawn but prone to outbursts because she's frustrated by her superpowers and yearns to be a normal teenager. She's grown up her whole life surrounded by superheroes like her parents and Frozone and somewhat resents it.

While the theory provides valid evidence, it doesn't really hold up. Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack are children. They simply don't understand the consequences of their actions, especially in the first Incredibles film. When Dash torments his teacher, he's just being a restless and reckless young boy. Jack-Jack terrorizes an animal because he's a baby who doesn't understand better. Violet acts out because she's a teenager. The kids have to juggle the normal aches and pains of growing up along with their superpowers. Because of that, lines get blurred. The Parr siblings' lives are very different than that of their peers, and sometimes what's acceptable becomes a little unclear.

The endings of both Pixar movies in the Incredible series dispute the theory as well. Both movies end with the kids stepping up to rescue their parents. Dash, Jack-Jack and Violet do this because they love their parents and recognize they need to use their powers to do good in the world. If they were truly psychopaths on their way to becoming supervillains, they wouldn't care enough to rescue their parents. That's because The Incredibles is not the origin story for a trio of villains; it's a coming-of-age story about three kids trying to figure out how to grow up with superpowers.
