The Hulk has many iterations in his long history, and in each of them, he’s played both the role of hero and villain. He’s also had his fair share of team-ups, forming the Avengers with Iron Man and Thor in one instance, and joining up with Doctor Doom to kill The Thing in another.

He’s also experienced many crossovers, team-ups and battles with DC heroes like Superman and Batman, but which DC villains would he have an affinity with, and which would steer clear of? Here are 5 DC Villains The Hulk Would Get Along With (& 5 He Would Hate).

10 GET ALONG: SOLOMON GRUNDY

The classic, savage version of the Hulk was a childlike brute whose anger lashed out at those who wouldn’t leave him alone. In this way, he shares a lot in common with Solomon Grundy, the villainous DC revenant. Grundy’s cycle of death and rebirth often leaves him in a confused stupor and a desire to be left to his own devices.

Due to their low IQs and high hostility levels, a chance encounter would probably lead to a battle between these two lumbering behemoths, but simmering down they’d no doubt develop a comfortably silent friendship.

9 HATE: DARKSEID

When the three distinct personalities of the Hulk merged into the “Professor” persona in the mid-nineties, he joined The Pantheon, a secret organization dedicated to proactively ending human suffering and oppression. At one point, the Hulk actually led this organization, battling despots and dictators all over the world.

Professor Hulk’s loathing of those who take advantage of others in a less fortunate position for their own personal aggrandizement would put him in direct opposition to Darkseid. The ruler of Apokolips has no qualms about making anyone suffer to fulfill his goal of ruling the universe, and Professor Hulk would definitely lead the charge to stop him.

8 GET ALONG: RA’S AL GHUL

The Hulk took a major new direction with the launch of the Immortal title. After years of being hunted and abused by humanity, the Hulk has officially declared war on it, citing its reckless stewardship of the planet thus far.

In this way, he shares a similar view to Ra’s Al Ghul. Ra’s endgame has long been the decimation of mankind in order to re-establish a new and perfect world order, albeit with himself at the head. United in purpose, Ra’s Al Ghul and the Immortal Hulk would agree on a similar goal, before betraying each other to see who would govern what’s left of the world.

7 HATE: MISTER MXYZPTLK

The Grey Hulk, or Mr. Fixit as he was known, had a bad attitude and nasty disposition that didn’t suffer fools or shenanigans very easily. This was evident in his impatient encounters with Mercy, and his violent encounters with Glorian, whom he both hoped would leave him alone.

In much the same way, the Grey Hulk would have neither the time nor patience to deal with the 5th-dimensional hi-jinx of Mr. Mxyzptlk. Altering reality and messing with his status quo would definitely provoke the Grey Hulk, however, considering Mxyzptlk’s extraordinary powers, it seems like he’d have no choice but to endure it.

6 GET ALONG: ATROCITUS

A close up on Atrocitus

As even the most casual comic fan knows, “the madder Hulk gets, the stronger Hulk gets,” so you can imagine how PO’d he was when he was marooned on a faraway planet by people he once considered his friends. That rage was amplified by the death of his wife and son, and coupled with a dose of extra radiation, turned him into a being capable of destroying planets.

That kind of rage-fueled power would make him fast friends with Atrocitus, the leader of the Red Lanterns. A being who could obliterate planets even before getting a red ring on his finger would surely set Atrocitus to salivating, and the World-Breaker Hulk would have welcomed that extra power to gain revenge on the Illuminati. A mutually beneficial relationship would have been bound to develop between these two, should they have ever met.

5 HATE: PROFESSOR HUGO STRANGE

HUGO STRANGE

The Hulk is not big on psychiatrists, in any incarnation. As Doc Samson can attest to, any attempt to delve into the Hulk's psyche for therapeutic purposes usually triggers intense hostility from the patient, which is understandable considering the nature of his trauma.

For this reason, the Hulk would probably distrust and hate Professor Hugo strange, who wears his license to practice psychiatry more smugly and thickly than Frasier Crane. Any attempt at treating the Hulk or attempting to pervert him to Strange's nefarious ends would probably end up in a body cast for the good professor if he's lucky.

4 GET ALONG: LOBO

Lobo carrying a sizeable weapon.

One of the baddest bastiches in the DC Universe, Lobo is a walking pile of savage urges. Sadistic, cruel and a huge fan of wanton violence and destruction, Lobo travels the galaxy looking for the highest bounty, strongest alcohol, and biggest fights.

He and the Red Hulk would get along famously. Since his introduction, the Thunderbolt Ross version of the Hulk exhibited a horrible mean streak, killing the Abomination in cold blood and with little prejudice. He followed it up by routing the She-Hulk-led task-force charged with stopping him, punching the Watcher, and downing a helicarrier- all actions that Lobo would applaud and probably help him with!

3 GET ALONG: KILLER CROC

Killer Croc from the DC universe

In his feral state, Killer Croc has little more personality than his namesake, skulking about in underwater shadows and thrashing his prey at the opportune time. At the other extreme, he can be a completely lucid and logical criminal when he’s psychologically balanced, enacting shrewd plans for street-level crimes.

Although an encounter with the Hulk could end up in a battle Waylon Jones would surely lose, he has enough in common with his Green and Grey versions to establish the groundwork for a friendship. After all, in his feral state, Croc just wants what the savage Hulk wants- acceptance and to be left alone. In his lucid state, he could find a willing partner in crime in Joe Fixit.

2 HATE: DOOMSDAY

Doomsday is an unstoppable juggernaut of destruction. Lacking reason or mercy, Doomsday always attacks first and never asks questions, and would almost certainly attack the Hulk in a first encounter.

Regardless of his incarnation, the Hulk will not just sit idly by while a mammoth wrecking machine attempts to kill him, so this relationship is going to be antagonistic right from the start, and will likely remain that way. The Hulk’s best incarnation to withstand and possibly defeat Doomsday would be the World Breaker, owing to his considerable strength and prowess in battle.

1 GET ALONG: BIZARRO

Most incarnations of Bizarro depict him as a simple-minded but somewhat good-intentioned clone of Superman whose twisted line of thinking, unfortunately, leads to destruction. This pretty much describes the savage Hulk incarnation to a tee, and the first encounter between these two dull-witted but extremely powerful figures could probably end up in a brief altercation.

When the dust settles, however, it’s entirely plausible that the two end up becoming thicker than thieves, due to their ability to communicate with each other on the same level. Moreover, they can bond over their common woes: a society that fears and mistrusts them and values their counterparts over them.
