The Great Comic Book Cover Homage Streak Moves On!

It occurs to me that it seems like many comic book covers are homages. Which is fine with me. I have no problem with it. It just made me think, though, how long could I go before I hit a week where NO new comic book was released that had a cover that was an homage to something? The streak began on September 27, 2012. Let’s see if it is still going on!

Week 217 was Mike Del Mundo’s cover for “Thanos” #1, which homaged the cover of Czarface’s album, “Every Hero Needs a Villain,” which was drawn by L’Amour Supreme.

Week 218 was Greg Hildebrant’s cover for “Death of X” #4, which homaged Gil Kane and Dave Cockrum’s cover to “Uncanny X-Men” #94.

Week 219 was Felipe Smith’s cover for “Ghost Rider” #1, which homaged the cover of Cypress Hill’s “IV” .

Week 220 was Chris Stevens and Marte Gracia’s cover for “Avengers” #2, which homaged Neal Adams’ cover to “Amazing Adventures” #8 .

(Note that they nicely included the homaged cover right there on the cover)

Week 221 was Salva Espin’s cover for “Deadpool: Back in Black” #5, which homaged Todd McFarlane’s “Spider-Man” #1 .

Week 222 was Elizabeth Torque’s cover for “Gamora” #1, which homaged the cover to Ma$e’s “Harlem World” .

Week 223 was Neal Adams’ cover for “Harley’s Black Book” #5, which homaged Adams’ own cover to “Superman vs. Muhammad Ali” .

Week 224 was Kano’s cover for “Faith” #7, which homaged the famous “Rosie the Riveter” poster from World War II .

The streak keeps on keeping on! I’ll check in again in another month or so!
