ABC has released the plot information for the series finale of The Goldbergs, and the longtime sitcom set in the 1980s will apparently be doing a Back to the Future-themed episode for the final episode of its tenth and final season.

A recurring gag throughout the long-running sitcom based (very loosely) on the real life childhood of show creator Adam F. Goldberg is that the series premieres of the show would often include elaborate homages to notable 1980s films, so it is only logical that the series will end with one, as well. "Bev to the Future" will feature Adam (Sean Giambrone) taking his mother, Beverly (Wendi McLendon-Covey), to her high school reunion, where he then has to make sure that she doesn't end up with the wrong man (just like Marty McFly in the classic 80s time-travel film where he had to make sure his mother ended up with his father at their high school dance).

What other Back to the Future references has The Goldbergs made? What other films has it homaged?

Again, The Goldbergs is well-known for its 1980s pop culture references. In Season 2's "I Rode a Hoverboard," Adam broke his arm, and lied that it happened while he was riding a hoverboard like in Back to the Future Part II (while his wacky uncle, played by Dan Fogler, experiences the drawbacks of owning a DeLorean to drive)

The Goldbergs began its annual tradition of 1980s movie homages with its premieres in Season 3 with a Risky Business homage. Season 4 homaged The Breakfast Club, Season 5 paid tribute to Weird Science, Season 6 referenced Sixteen Candles, Season 7 saw the family going on a vacation, a la National Lampoon's Vacation, Season 8 opened with the family flying, a la Airplane, Season 9 honored the late George Segal (who played Adam's grandfather, "Pops") in a Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure homage, and finally, Season 10's premiere saw a Field of Dreams homage following the death of family patriarch, Murray Goldberg (due to Jeff Garlin's departure from the series).

What other plots will be resolved in the series finale of The Goldbergs?

One of the trickiest things about the continuity of The Goldbergs is that its spinoff, Schooled, set in the 1990s, showed that Barry Goldberg (Troy Gentile) got back with his high school girlfriend, Lainey Lewis (Schooled star A.J Michalka, who was previously a regular on The Goldbergs) after he became a doctor (before then breaking up). On The Goldbergs, however, he is still in medical school and living with his girlfriend, Joanne Schwartz (Beth Triffon), the sister of his best friend, Geoff Schwartz (Sam Lerner), who is married to Barry's sister, Erica Goldberg (Hayley Orrantia).

ABC reveals that Barry and Joanne make a surprising decision in the finale to demonstrate how serious they are as a couple. Will that decision contradict the continuity from Schooled? Fans will have to wait until May 3 to find out.
