"I'd like to thank the Academy ..."
You'll be hearing that over and over again the night of March 24th, 2002, when the Oscars are televised live on ABC Television in the USA. This year, though, Alex Ross will be presiding over the ceremonies.
As you read here at CBR late last week Alex Ross has designed the official poster for the 74th Annual Academy Awards and today the Academy unveiled the poster.
Titled "The Gold Knight Returns," in an obvious homage to DC Comics' Dark Knight Detective, Oscar looms high over Hollywood, California with the "ABC Signal" in the distance calling on Oscar for duty. The official poster can be purchased at the official Oscar Web site for $20 a piece.
Over at the official Alex Ross Web site preliminary and finished artwork can be viewed in the Original Art for Sale section of the site. Included are a variety of different styles and looks for Oscar, including one which has Oscar wearing a cape and others showing Oscar from different angles and in slightly different poses.
The 74th Annual Academy Awards returns to Hollywood, CA, after a 31 year absence from the city that birthed the film industry. The last time the Oscars were held in Hollywood was in 1960 at the Pantages Theater. Since then it's been held at the Shrine Auditorium or Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Downtown Los Angles. This year the Oscars will be held at the new Kodak Theatre in the Hollywood/Highland shopping and entertainment center.
