Every year brings forward several brand new anime series, some of which quietly disappear into obscurity and others that immediately connect and help drive the next few years. The God of High School and Tower of God are two manhwa series recently adapted into anime for Crunchyroll. The two shows tackle somewhat similar territory since they revolve around extreme competitions that bring together many powerful individuals.

The God of High School’s protagonist is Jin Mori, while Tower of God’s hero is Bam. The two characters represent many comparable ideals, but they’re also different in fundamental ways that would lead to a fascinating battle between them.

10 Experience: Jin Mori Has More Training Under His Belt

One aspect that can be crucial in battle is the experience that a character has in combat. Strength and superlative skills are useless if they don’t know how to use them or apply them to another person. In this sense, Jin Mori has a history of training under his grandfather, and he’s been interested in fighting before the God of High School tournament was even on his radar. In contrast, the Tower of God is full of a more eclectic group of individuals, many of which aren’t seasoned fighters, including Bam.

9 Powers: Bam Has Incredible Shinsu Energy At His Disposal

Tower of God involves many unconventional tests and exhibitions of strength. Still, as the series continues, it becomes less about mental challenges, and there’s a larger focus on sheer strength and Shinsu ability. Shinsu is the Tower of God’s energy force, and Bam is revealed to be a natural in the area, even if he’s not exactly sure how to control his strength at first. Bam’s understanding and refinement over his Shinsu energy only turn him into a larger threat, and Mori doesn’t have much to fight back with when in his normal form.

8 Speed: Jin Mori Can Run Circles Around The Competition

Speed can often be the deciding factor in combat, and the ability to outlast and stay out of the enemy’s reach is sometimes as valuable as a good offense. Jin Mori’s speed isn’t his specialty, but he’s shown to be often able to dominate the tournament ring and zip all over the place to avoid attacks and plot out a strategy.

Mori’s training has paid off here, whereas Bam is more likely to put up a barrier to avoid injury rather than rely on his speed to dodge it.

7 Intelligence: Bam Has Learned Who To Trust And How To Adapt The Hard Way

Rachel and Bam _ Final Test

Like many shonen protagonists, Bam and Jin Mori are rather naïve when their respective series begins. They’re characters who prefer to enjoy life and not stress, despite how their lives may often be on the line. Admittedly, Bam’s unhealthy commitment to Rachel costs him a lot, but he’s able to learn from it in a fundamental way that allows him to put up blinders and truly be prepared. Bam exhibits a new level of awareness and skepticism that Mori hasn’t needed to bring into his life yet.

6 Hand-To-Hand Combat: Jin Mori Has Several Martial Arts Styles Mastered

The God of High School stands out among the other tournament anime series because, initially, each opponent seems to represent a different variety of real martial arts. Jin Mori has practiced Taekwondo throughout his life and has become very skilled in hand-to-hand combat as a result. As The God of High School goes on, Mori uses even more fighting techniques to add to his repertoire. Bam is not as aggressive, and he doesn’t have any real combat skills to fall back on. The tower’s team structure has allowed him to rely on others for this skill.

5 Tech And Equipment: Bam Is Impressive With A Weapon When He Needs To Be

Tower of God creates an impressive world, and the different varieties of characters and the ecosystems and rules that exist within the Tower are all fascinating. In addition to physical strength and Shinsu abilities, Tower of God also features several powerful and rare weapons known as the 13 Month Series.

Bam becomes one of the select few who gets to wield one of these weapons, even if it’s only for a brief time. Bam’s strength in this area is significant, and Jin Mori is a fighter that’s relied on other areas beyond weapons and equipment.

4 Transformations: Mori’s Monkey God Form Shows Off His Godly Birthright

The God of High School begins with relatively grounded combat and fight sequences, but it quickly turns to superpowers and exaggerated transformations like so many other series. The first season’s finale pushes Jin Mori to new power levels when he experiences his Monkey God transformation. It helps the series enter a new echelon of enemies, and Mori can contend with the extreme displays of Charyeok power that the Nox organization has teased. Bam’s Shinsu skills are impressive, but there are still more advantages present with Mori’s new form.

3 Allies: Bam Has A Tower’s Worth Of People Looking Out For Him

Both Bam and Jin Mori are popular individuals in their respective series. Despite how Mori builds important relationships with Yu Mira and Han Daewi, it’s still a support system that pales compared to what Bam has at his disposal. Bam is strangely an individual that absolutely everyone in the Tower wants to align within a battle. Weirdly, it allows Bam to mask his powers and not often have to resort to them because he has so many others willing to jump into his defense or make sure he stays safe.

2 Physical Strength: Jin Mori Enters The Series In Top Condition

Mori Jin, the main character from The God Of High School

The God of High School is such an addictive anime series because it specifically features a gathering of the strongest individuals from South Korea. Evidently, many of these individuals possess wild abilities via their Charyeok, but Jin Mori also has the physical strength to back this up. Jin Mori’s previous habits have him entre The God of High School in peak physical condition, and he continues to improve his workout routine. Bam is much softer, and he stumbles his way to the top. He’s absolutely not someone that should rely on his fists to move forward.

1 Winner: Jin Mori Is The Stronger And Better-Rounded Fighter

Anime God Of High School Jin Mori Cheering Sun School

The God of High School and Tower of God both create powerful and impressive protagonists, but it’s Jin Mori who narrowly comes out on top. Mori and Bam can dominate in their respective series, but Mori is someone that’s been training for battle his entire life, whereas Bam’s journey into the Tower practically feels like an afterthought. Bam demonstrates why he deserves to be there, but it still lacks Mori. Mori’s not just strong and committed, but he has legendary power that courses through him, and Charyeok seems like the more dominant energy force than Shinsu.
