The Gifted: Skyler Samuels in Talks to Become Series Regular

Stepford Cuckoos on The Gifted

It looks like Season 2 of Fox’s The Gifted could be getting even frostier with Skyler Samuels (Scream Queens), who plays the Stepford Cuckoos, in talks to become a series regular.

Introduced in episode eight of the debut season, Samuels' Esme joined the Mutant Undergound and subsequently helped liberate her sisters, Phoebe and Sophie, as part of an attack on Sentinel Services. “Yeah, you’ll be seeing lots more of me and my sisters next season!” Samuels said in an interview with TVLine regarding her future on the show.

With their last name revealed to be Frost, and their comic history as clones of none other than the White Queen Emma Frost, speculation has begun that next season could see the Hellfire Club and Emma come into focus. So far, the Cuckoos have displayed some questionable traits as well, hinting that they're not as altruistic as we first thought, and truly destined for anti-hero status.

They even mentally manipulated members within their own camp so as to wage war on Trask Industries, which might well end up shaping them into full-fledged mutant terrorists sooner rather than later, perhaps even trying to lure in the Strucker kids.

Airing Monday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Fox, The Gifted stars Stephen Moyer, Amy Acer, Sean Teale, Natalie Alyn Lind, Percy Hynes Whites, Blair Redford, Jamie Chung, Emma Dumont, and Coby Bell. The Gifted concludes its first season on Fox on Jan. 15 with a two-hour finale.
