Two new trailers for Fox's The Gifted have emerged, each one representing a side of the two mutant factions that will be coming to power in Season 2, premiering later this month.

Reeva Payge (Grace Byers) delivers an ominous speech about the future of humans and mutants in the "Inner Circle" trailer. "Mutants are dying," she says over scenes of early signs of war. "We have many enemies. What do we want? It's simple. We want to feel safe."

Payge is the leader of the Inner Circle, a group which is fighting for mutant dominance and whose members now include a few key characters who split from the Mutant Underground at the end of the last season. In the trailer, Payge displays her own mutant power and a leadership style that shows clear signs of extremism: "For the sake of what it is we are building, I would sacrifice anything."

The "Mutant Underground" trailer reveals a different side to the conflict, with many of the mutants seen in the last season still loyal to each other and their original cause. It seems that the urgency has ramped up on their side too, though. "The Inner Circle is up to something," says Eclipse (Sean Teale). "We are out there fighting every day, losing people. Trust me, I'm done being careful."

The emphasis on two mutant factions feeling threatened by humanity and both claiming to be the good guys falls in line with the theme of the season as it has been promoted so far. Audiences are not just introduced to two potential victors, but encouraged to choose one side over the other.

To make matters even more complicated, there are continued references to the X-Men, known to all as a team of true mutant heroes whose vision of mutants and humans living side-by-side seemingly failed. With the X-Men out of the picture and human law enforcement cracking down on people with mutations, Season 2 will seemingly come down to a choice between the Mutant Underground and the Inner Circle.

The Gifted Season 2 will premiere on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The series' showrunner is Matt Nix, and the cast includes Stephen Moyer as Reed Strucker, Amy Acker as Caitlin Strucker, Sean Teale as Eclipse/Marcos Diaz, Jamie Chung as Blink/Clarice Fong, Coby Bell as Jace Turner, Emma Dumont as Polaris/Lorna Dane, Blair Redford as Thunderbird/John Proudstar, Natalie Alyn Lind as Lauren Strucker, Percy Hynes White as Andy Strucker and Skyler Samuels as the Frost Sisters.
