Fox's X-Men series The Gifted may have started out by featuring very loose connections to the X-Men comic books but, as the season progressed, more and more recognizable elements from the source material came into focus. Case in point, actress Skyler Samuels' mind-controlling mutant, who at first appeared to be a new character, was in fact later confirmed to be just one of three sisters who are actually the Stepford Cuckoos, aka the cloned daughters of Emma Frost.

Viewers saw Samuels play all three Frost sisters, Esme, Sophie and Phoebe, powerful telepaths who share a hive mind but who also have individual personalities. While three is the number the Cuckoos are more commonly known to have in the comic books, they didn't start this way. In fact, they started out as five, and now it appears as if we might just see all five sisters on the television show.

During a cast interview with TVLine during Comic-Con International in San Diego, Samuels revealed that The Gifted's upcoming season might feature even more Frost sisters. When speaking about how the triplets she plays will receive more distinct personalities in following episodes, the actress followed up by saying "there's maybe more sisters to come, which is exciting."

In the comics, Esme, Sophie and Phoebe have two other sisters, Celeste and Irma. Although the sisters would eventually become X-Men in the source material, The Gifted is exploring a different path for the sisters, who are members of the Hellfire Club -- just like their mother before them.

Samuels joined The Gifted late in Season 1, but quickly became one of the most important characters as the season came to a close. Now, the actress has joined the cast as a series regular, and by the sound of things, her screen time will only increase the more Frost sisters appear on the show.

It sure sounds like everyone on the show will have a whole lot of Cuckoos to deal with.
