The cast of Fox's upcoming X-Men-centric primetime series The Gifted has added a fresh new face: Garret Dillahunt (12 Years a Slave, No Country for Old Men, Deadwood) will portray Roderick Campbell, the Marvel villain known in the comics as Ahab.
According to Deadline, Roderick Campbell is a mutant researcher under contract with Sentinel Services. His character is described as "Professorial, intense and intimidating," with "a morally dubious mission yet to be revealed."
Created by Walt Simonson and Jackson Guice, Campbell made his first appearance in the pages of Fantastic Four Annual #23 in July of 1990. While working as a psychologist who joined Moira MacTaggert's genetic research team at the Muir Island Mutant Research Center, Campbell discovered that in the alternate future of Earth-811 (Days of Future Past), he became the evil mutant-hunter known as Ahab, creating an army of mutant trackers called Hounds.
The Gifted is the second television series to spin out of Fox’s X-Men franchise, following the success of Legion on FX. However, while The Gifted shares certain characters, elements and themes with the X-Men films -- from Blink to Sentinels and anti-mutant sentiments -- the show will exist in a separate universe.
Premiering Monday, Oct. 2, at 9 p.m. ET/PT, the joint production of Fox and Marvel Television stars Stephen Moyer as Reed Strucker, Amy Acker as Caitlin Strucker, Sean Teale as Marcos Diaz/Eclipse, Coby Bell as Jace Turner, Emma Dumont cast as Lorna Dane/Polaris, Jamie Chung as Blink/Clarice Fong and Blair Redford as John Proudstar/Thunderbird, Natalie Alyn Lind as Lauren Strucker and Percy Hynes White as Andy Strucker.
