The Gifted: 10 Questions That Will Never Get Answered Now That It’s Cancelled

When The Gifted first debuted on FOX people didn't know what to expect, but it quickly became a favourite amongst X-Men fans. Whilst the ratings were not necessarily strong, the show was certainly a hit for  those who did tune in every week. The series was centred around the mutant Von Strucker family and their journey with the an underground resistance, fighting injustices against mutants. After it was announced that Disney had purchased FOX and all of its properties, the fate of The Gifted was unknown.

Unfortunately for those fans of the mutant series, The Gifted was cancelled after just two seasons, leaving many plot threads with loose ends and even more questions unanswered. Here are ten questions that will never get answered now that the series is cancelled!

10 WHAT WILL JACE DO NOW?

Throughout The Gifted we saw Jace go through a series of tough decisions. From a respected Sentinel Services agent, to the public face of the Purifiers, Jace's journey has been about his fight against the mutants. After struggling with mutant-kind following the death of his daughter in the terror attack of 7/15, Jace has fallen from grace considerably due to his obsession.

In the season finale "oMens" Jace begs for death from Thunderbird, after realising the damage he has caused. His mission from day one has been flawed and he has come to realise the horrible consequences of his actions. But, Thunderbird does not grant his request, leaving him to contemplate his decisions. How will Jace move forward now that everything he has believed in has fallen away?

9 HOW WILL THE VON STRUCKERS COPE WITHOUT REED?

The most hard-hitting moment of any series is the death of a major character and The Gifted is now different. Reed Von Strucker was in some ways the lead of this series, with the father of two becoming the family's guiding compass, through many dangerous situations.

Reed's fate was sealed when he started to suppress his X-gene, but that didn't stop him from going out like a hero. With such an important part of the Mutant Underground now gone and a hole in the Von Strucker family, how will Lauren, Andy and Caitlin go on, now that their emotional rock has gone?

8 WHERE DOES ANDY FIT INTO THE MUTANT UNDERGROUND NOW?

The-Gifted-Andy-Lauren

Andy's choice to join the Inner Circle was a defining part of Season 2. As he and Lorna came to realise, the corrupt nature of Reeva's plan meant that they could no longer side with the Hellfire Club spin-off. With Andy and Lorna leaving to join the Mutant Underground again, this poses a number of questions as to their future.

After Andy's actions including fighting his own sister, many were surprised by how welcoming his family were to him again. But, his role in the Mutant Underground may be more troubled than his home life. Will the Underground fully accept someone they were working against for so long?

7 WHAT IS LEFT OF THE MUTANT UNDERGROUND?

Across both seasons the Mutant Underground were subjected to a number of losses and setbacks, from Sentinel Services, The Inner Circle and The Purifiers. What was once the dream of the X-Men has become more about survival; with many on the team feeling they have failed in their mission.

With hope seemingly lost, but many of their enemies gone, how many are left in the Mutant Underground? Will they continue to fight and resist the system that hates them, or will they continue to simply survive? The Mutant Underground has a lot of rebuilding to do and it is a shame that these questions will never be answered.

6 IS THERE STILL A HELLFIRE CLUB OUT THERE?

When Reeva created her version of the Inner Circle, she killed the other members of the Hellfire Club that could stand in her way. This doesn't mean that the Hellfire Club are completely gone though. The Hellfire Club has a history of being incredibly resilient and they probably wouldn't be too happy with what happened to the Inner Circle.

Season 3 would have needed a new threat for the Underground to face and could it have been that the true form of the Hellfire Club would have returned to wreck havoc on mankind and endanger the others mutants in the process?

5 WHAT'S BEHIND THAT PORTAL?

The cliffhanger of "oMens" had everyone surprised, with Blink arriving from the future through one of her portals. She tells her friends of the past that she needs them for the fight that has yet to come and invites them through to the other side, to face whatever danger is to meet them.

But what's behind that portal? It's clearly the future, but what has happened that Blink has had to travel through time to get the help that she needs? What threat awaits behind that window through time and how will these mutants face it? The answers to these questions may never be known.

4 HOW DID BLINK SURVIVE?

Speaking of Blink, the last time her boyfriend Thunderbird, had seen her she was dead in a wall, after being shot whilst fleeing from the Purifiers. Part of her shock return from the future is the fact that she is alive at all, since the rest of the team had already grieved her loss.

With such a surprise revival, it has to be asked, how did Blink survive? There have been other major characters deaths in the show's history but none where they have returned again from the grave.

3 WILL LORNA EVER MEET HER FATHER?

Parenthood has been a strong theme for Lorna through The Gifted. Having struggled with the relationship with her father, Magneto, as well as having to raise her own child in such a dangerous environment, its fair to say that Lorna has some family issues.

Magneto has been strongly referenced throughout the series and it was clear that the show runners were slowly building towards his reveal. Much like Legion is set to feature Professor X in their upcoming season, adding the original leader of the Brotherhood of Mutants could have been an interesting element. Will Lorna ever meet her father again?

2 HOW WILL THE WORLD REACT TO MUTANTS NOW?

The Inner Circle, alongside the Purifiers, did a lot to increase tensions between the mutant and human population. With the country on the verge of chaos from the mutant attacks, as well as the destruction of Sentinel Services, it feels like the national conflict is about to explode.

With so much tension in the air, will the wounds between these two sides heal, or has too much happened for the world to go back to how it was before? Life probably isn't going to get easier for the Mutant Underground, but it would have been great to have seen how the mutants are treated now that the battle lines have been drawn.

1 WAS THE GIFTED GOING TO BE LINKED TO THE MCU?

The Gifted Season 2 Episode 10

The final question that was on everyone's mind as the FOX acquisition took place, is what would happen to the TV shows such as Legion and The Gifted? With both of them quite separate from the movie universe, some thought that the series could be linked into the MCU.

It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to imagine these versions of Thunderbird, Blink or the Von Struckers, side by side with the MCU's mightiest. Perhaps this is a question that could still be answered. Or maybe this is what the portal was setting up, across dimensions rather than just time. So was The Gifted going to be linked to the MCU until it got cancelled?
