Capping off an impressively long list of box office records, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" beat Sunday estimates to unseat "Jurassic World" and claim the biggest global opening of all time.

Early estimates place "The Force Awakens" at $528 million, just barely slipping past "Jurassic World's" $524.9 million record from earlier this year. However, The Hollywood Reporter suggests that tally may be even higher by the time the final receipts are counted later today.

Domestic earnings have climbed from Sunday's estimates of $279 million to $281 million, placing "The Force Awakens" behind "Jurassic World" ($316 million) and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows -- Part 2" ($314 million).

The website notes that "Jurassic World" had an advantage in the global office, because it opened in China on the same day. "The Force Awakens" won't arrive in that country until Jan. 9.
