"Avengers: Age of Ultron" and "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" teamed up to help lift Disney past a $5 billion worldwide box office gross for the first time in its history.

The studio, whose previous year-end high of $4.73 billion came in 2013, crossed the $4 billion mark in October. According to Deadline, this is the third consecutive year Disney surpassed $4 billion.

As good as 2015 has been for the studio, it still trails behind Universal Pictures, which racked up $6.8 billion, thanks in large part to "Jurassic World" and "Furious 7."

"The Force Awakens" debuted globally to a record-smashing $529 million, seizing the title of biggest worldwide opening of all time from "Jurassic World."

Disney's other big hits this year include Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” ($459 million domestic, $1.4 billion worldwide), Pixar’s “Inside Out” ($356.4 million domestic, $855.4 million worldwide), “Cinderella” ($201.1 million domestic, $542.5 million worldwide), and Marvel’s “Ant-Man” ($180.1 million domestic, $519.1 million worldwide).

Disney purchased Marvel in 2009 for $4 billion, and Lucasfilm in 2012 for $4.06 billion.
