WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Flash Forward #5, by Scott Lobdell, Brett Booth, Norm Rapmund, Luis Guerrero and ALW's Troy Peteri, on sale now.

At the beginning of Flash Forward, Tempus Fuginaut brought Wally West/Flash out of prison following the events of Heroes in Crisis and sent him on a quest to deal with an incursion from the Dark Multiverse. Tempus' motivations for doing so weren't entirely clear, though there was some indication that he was easing Wally into a major task. In Flash Forward #5, Wally learns Tempus' ultimate goal is to have the hero destroy ground zero for an incursion from the Dark Multiverse. However, just because Wally knows what he has to do doesn't mean he'll actually destroy the planet.

After fighting the Dark Multiverse in various other places, Flash Forward #4 saw Wally return to the Incursion Point, where he finds Jai and Iris West -- his long-missing children. The reunion is short lived, as a wave of Dark Multiversal matter consumes the two children and nearly destroys Wally himself. Once Wally escapes the wave of matter, he confronts Tempus, who explains Wally must destroy the planet they're on. Wally refuses at first and attacks Tempus, saying he won't destroy the world where his children are.

Wally tries to use the staff Tempus gave him to get rid of the dark matter, but the planet itself is made of the stuff and it, thus, proves ineffective. The Flash then attempts to use his speed, but he's stopped by the Mobius Chair. The powerful artifact -- which belongs to the New God Metron -- contains pretty much all of the information in the universe.

When he touches the chair, the memories Wally lost in Flashpoint are restored. The act helps put Wally back together again, integrating the memories and information that he's been refusing to acknowledge into his consciousness. This leads to a shocking revelation about the planet: Tempus recruited Wally because the Incursion Point "was created from [his greatest fear]. Losing Iris and Jai."

Wally's own emotions and instability have put the universe at risk, creating a place where the Dark Multiverse can bleed into his own. However, Wally refuses to do what Tempus is asking him to do as Dark Multiversal energy bursts from his chest. Although Wally's tone will certainly change, the hero is still attempting to reform after his terrible actions in Heroes in Crisis. Having to destroy a planet at the cost of his children in order to save his universe might prove more of a burden than Wally can bear.

Flash Forward #6 releases Feb. 19 from DC Comics.
