A sneak peek at merch for The Flash brings Michael Keaton's Batmobile and Batwing into the DC Extended Universe.
A preview at upcoming merchandise for The Flash movie provided fans with a clear look at Batmobile and Batwing toys, which were originally featured in Tim Burton's 1989 Batman film, starring Keaton. These toys show that the upcoming DCEU film will stay true to the original design of Batman's vehicles.
While Keaton will be reprising his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman in The Flash, it is unclear if he will continue in the role after the film. Since James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as co-CEOs of DC Studios in Nov. 2022, they have made it clear that they are planning a new slate of DC movies.The Flash will close out the current DCEU, making room for a new shared universe known as the DCU.
Keaton Returns as Batman
The Flash star Ezra Miller has been surrounded by controversy leading up to the release of the film, but the long-awaited return of Keaton's Batman has proven to be a reliable selling point for audiences. Along with his distinct Batmobile and Batwing, The Flash merchandise has also shown off Keaton's Batsuit in the movie. A Christmas ornament showed off Keaton's Batman in an action pose, suggesting that his look in the movie will be quite similar to his suit in his first outing as the Caped Crusader. However, his version of the Dark Knight has made a few smart additions to the iconic suit, as it appears to have reinforced shoulder pads and additional armored striations added to the legs.
In the build up to The Flash, Keaton explained why he decided to return to the role of Batman. "It seemed like fun," he said. "I was curious what it would be like after this many years. Not so much me doing it — obviously, some of that — but I was just curious about it, weirdly, socially. This whole thing is gigantic. They have their entirely own world. So, I like to look at it as an outsider, thinking 'Holy moly!'"
While The Flash may be the final DCEU film, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to release afterwards, on Dec. 25, 2023. This has confused fans, since Jason Momoa's Aquaman has been a prominent member of the DCEU, but the actor has assured fans that he will always be Aquaman. "Ain't anyone coming in there and taking shit," Momoa said. "There might be some other characters, too. I can play other things, too. I can be funny and savage and charming."
The Flash is scheduled to hit theaters on Jun. 23, 2023.
