The following article contains spoilers for Earth-Prime: Hero's Twilight #6 by Jeff Hersh, Thomas Pound, Will Robson, Pablo M. Collar, Alex Sinclair, John Kalisz and Tom Napolitano, on sale now from DC.

The sixth and final issue of DC's Arrowverse-set comic book limited series Earth-Prime directly sets up the upcoming ninth season of The CW's The Flash by setting a major villain from the show's past on the loose.

While the first five issues of Earth-Prime have featured solo stories set within the Arrowverse, the sixth issue, titled Earth-Prime: Hero's Twilight, serves as a crossover that has been built up since the beginning. Hero's Twilight sees Cisco Ramon (played on The Flash by Carlos Valdes) and Phantom Girl (played on the show by Mika Abdalla) discover that the supervillain known as Bloodwork has escaped imprisonment. The comic then declares, "To be continued in Season 9 of The Flash."

Created by Joshua Williamson, Pop Mhan and Christian Duce, Ramsey Rosso/Bloodwork first appeared in 2017's The Flash #29, "Negative, Part Two." The events of the comic set up the "Blood Work" story arc, which began in The Flash #30. Ramsey Rosso made his live-action debut during the sixth season of The CW's The Flash in 2019, with Sendhil Ramamurthy stepping into the role. Barry Allen/the Flash (Grant Gustin) ultimately defeated and imprisoned Bloodwork. However, despite showing up once after his defeat, the villain has not been seen since Season 6 wrapped up. That said, he has been mentioned on a number of occasions.

The Flash is currently gearing up for its Season 8 finale -- coincidentally titled "Negative, Part Two" -- which is set to air on The CW on Wednesday, June 29. The longest-running series set within the Arrowverse, The Flash was officially renewed for Season 9 this past March. At the same time, fellow Arrowverse series Superman & Lois was renewed for Season 3. Like The Flash, Superman & Lois also factored into DC's Earth-Prime comic series.
