DC Studios' The Flash movie received new fan art ahead of its impending theatrical release, re-imagining Ezra Miller as Reverse Flash.

Shared by artist Clements.ink on Instagram, the image features Miller wearing a bright yellow suit with a black and red lightning emblem, as they transform into the Scarlet Speedster's long-time nemesis Reverse Flash. Should the DC villain make a surprise appearance in the highly-anticipated movie, it would serve as Reverse Flash’s big-screen debut after six decades since John Broome and Carmine Infantino created the character for The Flash’s original comic book run. The villain, whose alternate ego is Eobard Thawne, was first adapted into live-action TV for The CW’s Arrowverse, in which he was notably portrayed by Tom Cavanagh and Matt Letscher.

The Flash is directed by It filmmaker Andy Muschietti from a screenplay written by Christina Hodson. Based on the popular "Flashpoint" storyline from the comics, the upcoming superhero film will feature Barry Allen traveling to the past in an attempt to prevent his mother's death. However, he accidentally changes the future, resulting in him being trapped in an alternate reality where his usual superhero allies don’t exist. On top of it all, an alive General Zod makes his way back to Earth to complete his plans of annihilating humanity.

The long-in-development project will feature the return of Miller as they reprise the part of the iconic DC hero seven years after their first appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Joining them are familiar multiversal allies in the form of Michael Keaton's Bruce Wayne/Batman and Sasha Calle's Kara Zor-El/ Supergirl. Additional returning cast includes Kiersey Clemons as Iris West, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Ben Affleck as Batman, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, and more.

After becoming entangled in multiple controversies, Miller is currently receiving mental health treatment in an effort to turn their life around and "get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my [their] life." As for their uncertain future in the DC Universe, DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran confirmed that a final decision will be made once Miller completes their recovery and is ready to have the discussion.

In a previous interview, when asked about the possibility of making a sequel, Muschietti firmly believes that Miller is irreplaceable as Barry Allen/ The Flash, claiming that he doesn't think "there’s anyone that can play that character as well as they [Miller] did." In addition, producer Barbara Muschietti also echoed her brother’s statements about Miller’s performance, teasing that the actor "gave everything for this role – physically, creatively, emotionally" during the movie's production.

The Flash premieres in theaters on June 16.
